Q6600 vs Q6700

Postby spenditifyougotit on Mon Sep 03, 2007 11:07 pm

I'm thinking about upgrading from Core 2 Duo to Quad core but can't figure out which one to get ..

the Q6600 is 2.4ghz @ 289.99 and the Q6700 is 2.66mhz @ 554.99

personally I feel like paying almost DOUBLE the price for like .22 ghz more is stupid .. I feel like I can easily OC' the Q6600 to 3.2 and be happy with it while STILL paying much less

any ideas ?? because if the Q6700 is much better than I'll just suck it up and pay the price but I figure the money im saving for NOT getting the Q67 I could buy a 680i SLI board lol

input will help greatly

Do you plan on overclocking the platform a bit? If you are going to overclock you can get that .22Ghz easily for free.

yeh .. I plan to overclock to around the 3.2ghz area just to get a LITTLE extra lol

I was thinking that 544 was INSANE for something I could very easily get to .. but I wasn't sure if that .22ghz was the ONLY difference in those chips or if there were other factors seperating them

The Q6700 will overclock further, but having said that, 4x ~3.2GHz C2D cores is one hell of an animal ;)

I'd get the Q6600, OC it, save some cash and alot of heartache as a quad core running over 3.2 pumps out ALOT of heat.
Get a P35 chipset board to run with, preferably the P5K Dlx (if you can afford it). They overclock the quads much better than the other chipsets, plus you can upgrade to the 45nm quad cores next year.
You'll also need good cooling for a quad core as, as soon as you add the smallest bit of voltage the heat goes sky high!
Fáilte Romhat!

ok .. I was thinking about using the EVGA 680i SLI board .. is that not as good as the one your tlaking about ??

and for cooling, I have a pretty good system going on .. its a hybrid Danger Den/ Switech kit I put together and runs right now. with ym core 2 duo at about 20-25 and under load i have YET to see it go passed 38-45 .. so its not bad but I know im in for a LOT more heat with the Quad :-\

Generally, P35 has less trouble overclocking quad cores.
