8800GTX 768MB vs. 8800GTS 512MB

Has anyone out here been able to test those two cards side by side.
Which one performs better?
What are the advantages and disadvantages?

I don't think it's cut and dry to say the GTX is the better choice. Sure, it scores better fps, but one would have to decide personally if it's worth the extra $100-150 for a few frames per second.

Yea i agree with you ice man for example (not actual results just random number picked)
VC XFX 8800GT 600M 512mb at $399
and
VC XFX 8800GTX xXx 630M 768MB at $879

If say the 8800GT was to get a FPS in a random game of 60 with everything on high
While the 8800GTX was to get 80 FPS in the same game with everything on high and i did this

8800GT 60/399 = 0.150 Now X 100 = 15%
and
8800GTX 80/879 = 0.091 Now X 100 = 9.1%
Since i like whole numbers i put it into a % to show the Performance over price jsut to show oyu how much of that cost is worth the performance. I think that each review that is done should show this, jsut show the customer knows how much is really going towards the performance.

But as you can see is the extra $480 worth it for the extra 20 FPS? i Think not.....

It really depends on the resolution that you're monitor is running. Personally the GTX would better serve MY needs as I have a 30" LCD with a native resolution of 2560*1600. A few frames at 1920*1200 turns into a whole lot of frames as the resolution increases (due to the frame buffer size) so a GTX means playable where a GTS 512 does not. If I'm going to spend the money on a card it would make sense that I pony up the extra bucks to buy the one that will actually be able to do get the job done.

In all actuality even GTX's or Ultras in SLI are still not enough to run all the latest games at playable frames at higher resolutions but hopefully I've made the point that it's all about your setup. AMD needs to get competitive on the high end because Nvidia is milking the 8800's and that does nothing good for the consumer. It's been 13 months since they launched the 8800 GTX and the price hasn't budged since it arrived.
