As compared to what?

In general, I would not recommend any 8600GT for playing the latest games on high settings. You could manage them on medium settings. For games that are a year or 2 old, you would be just fine.

If you want to play Crysis or the newer games on high settings, you would have to look into the 8800 or 9600 series for now.
