Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 - 45nm Wolfdale 2.53 GHz/1066 FSB

Intel is coming out with a new Intel Core 2 Duo with the model number E7200 here very soon in Q2 of 2008. The new CPU works at 2.53GHz and it has 3MB of cache memory which is it its strongest selling point. The new Dual core E7200 is one of the 45nm Wolfdale based processors, but it will end up 70MHz slower than E4700 that currently works at 2.6GHz. No worries though as the E7200 has 1066MHz FSB, which is faster than E4700 that works with FSB 800. (Dual core Wolfdale 2.53 GHz/1066 FSB, 3MB L2 cache – Q-spec code QAFS)

The Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 should be a great overclocker though as it will have a 9.5 multiplier (266MHz FSB x 9.5 multiplier = 2,527MHz). If you increase the FSB to 333MHz that will make the CPU 3.16Ghz and if it could do 400MHz that would make it 3.80GHz... Very nice... Look for a review on this processor very soon.

My first thoughts are...Is this chip necessary? You have lower chips, albeit they don't overclock quite as well, and you have the E6750 & E6850 that both overclock relatively well, and you have the E8xxx series...I'm not sure this chip has a place unless the price is extremely low and at 45nm, it overclocks like mad...then maybe I can see it.

I believe the E7000 series is designed to replace the E4000 so it's quite possible that we'll see them at pretty low price points. Methinks Intel's trying to move all their production lines to 45nm.

Oh yeah, there's also lower energy consumption and heat dissipation.

oh man! arg. i'm going to have to settle for a E6550 for a new family processor now but thats just how technology is lol once you settle on something, the next best piece catches your eye and you really have to weigh "PC now or nicer PC later"

then again any C2D is a huge step up from this AMD Athlon 1.8Ghz Barton core we have.

That's the way technology works you get a processor then 6 months down the line here comes bigger better faster shinier tech. Some times I think that the Head Nerd Gates couldn't even afford to stay current, and if he did he'd need a spare mansion to store all the left overs in.

I know that I have the Techno lust bad enough when I just got an Asus P5K-E and Quad 6600 and lovin it, and thinking whoa if I just got a DDR3 board and some DDR3 for it hmmm, oh and wouldn't that Raptor just look so good in that drive bay.

Then I decided those were frivolous right now because A Quad really needs more than a 700w PSU (Probably doesn't), so I got an 1100w Modular Tagan, with 80a available on the 12v rails coming. Not the less expensive wired one mind you that wouldn't do in QuadZilla, the Modular with the lighted connectors, 135mm lighted fan, and a warning label that says "Please notify local power company before first use".

There should be a 12 step program for this, where you work down through stages eventually ending up content with current hardware, not that I'd consider doing the program unless it comes on a new tablet notebook that's WIFI.

I believe "Head Nerd Gates" as you so eloquently put it actually owns the 5 houses surrounding his primary residence and lots and lots of land surrounding that. Yep, he's got spare mansions to store "old" tech. Hmm, think I saw it on VH1, "100 Richest Men" or something like that.

My first C2D was a little E4300 (cheapest Intel made) and I could get over a 100% OC out of the thing on a bottom of the line MoBo. There's a ton of folks out there that will buy the low-end CPU and clock the poop out of the thing. I was much happier with my E4300 than I am with my current E6750, overall, the E4300 was clock for clock just as fast as the E6750 and cost a heck of a lot less.

There's been some Wolfdale cores up that high already, so I don't see why now with the proper cooling.......................
