Newby RAID question

How do I set up a RAID 0 config?

I am setting up my first computer and I just bought this motherboard: ASUS P4P800-X
Also two of the exact same hard-drives with raid in mind: (HD 160G|wester digital 7K 8M SATA2 WD1600AAJS)

I've looked all over the internet and I bought this motherboard with the idea in mind that it's already RAID capable, do I need to buy something else to make this work?

Edit: also all the components I bought were OEM so I had to buy a SATA cable to make all this work. I bought two of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 12-191-060

But now I just noticed the hard drives are SATA 2...should I have bought sata 2 cables?

Yes the board has raid, might get the manual from ASUS's website for the steps needed to configure it.

As far as the cables, the cables are the same, no difference. So yes the SATA cables you have will work with the drives you have.

I have read through the entire manual today looking for that answer but it didn't make mention of RAID in any way.
Is it done through the BIOS? should I just designate them as the same drive and it will treat them as such?

Edit: yeaaaaah...i feel real dumb after those two suggestions.

it depends on the board, but alot of times setting up raid can be a real bitch. it varies alot from controller to controller, usually (in my experience) involving setting things in the bios and doing some stuff on flopies.

I'm really sorry, but I don't think that board supports RAID. There is no mention of it anywhere in the manual, and there isn't even a BIOS option in the manual for it.

It looks like it uses the Intel ICH5 controller. If it supported RAID it would have used the Intel ICH5R chip (or have mention of a separate RAID chip in the manual). Different versions of this motherboard (like the P4P800 deluxe) have the RAID enabled controller, so it's easy to see why you would think all versions of the mobo have it. Unfortunately that isn't the case.

I was sure I saw the raid setup steps in the manual on ASUS's website. Says they are down for maintenance right now, when its back up again I look. Maybe I did the same thing like Dan said.

EDIT: Sorry, I misread the model number when looking through the lists on ASUS's website. I apologize, and Dan was right it does not have raid.

I am going to overclock a Pentium 3.0 HT presscott D0. Would it impact my CPU performance too much if I were to just do a software RAID?

Hardware RAID looks like it's gonna cost me in the ballpark of $130 for a 3ware PCI card. does anyone have a suggestion for the most cost effective way to regain my RAID 0 dreams?
