Geforce 8600GTproblems on Vista

Postby Fightgear » Sat Apr 12, 2008 6:13 am

Hi guys

Hoping you can offer some help for a newbie. I just installed a new Geforce 8600GT card as a second graphics card on my desktop. I'm running an Asrock Conroe Xfire esata motherboard with a P4 Core 2 duo and a Radeon X1600 as my primary graphics card (came with my 'puter). My OS is Vista 64.

Since installing it I can't get any output from it (the Geforce). When I try and install it, I get a code 43 report and my device manager says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

I should add that I am trying to use the card to power my third monitor in conjunction with the Radeon card.

Any idea of what is the problem here and solutions around it?
Cheers guyz

so you are running one GeForce card and one Radeon card on the same board?

Due to driver issues I've never heard of anyone being able to mix and match cards like that, so you'll be unable to do this as you have already found out.

Arrrgh!
so what is the best option? Lose the 8600gt and get something to match the RadeonX1600 or get another 8600gt? I don't particularly need an SLI type set-up as its for work rather than games. It's annoying since I only bought the 8600 last week.
Cheers for the help so far (even tho it's made me suicidal)

ATI's Crossfire dual-card option is for ATI cards only, so you wouldn't be able to run nVidia's SLI on your machine. if you must run 2 cards you should get another RadeonX1600
Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H
AMD Phenom II X4 940BE @ 3.5 GHz
6GB DDR2 800 CAS4
MSI 8800GTS 512 (G92)
2x500GB Seagate RAID 0
Corsair HX620
Swiftech LCS in an Antec P-180B
Samsung 21.6" LCD (216BW)

I think he needs to power a third monitor, not get more performance out of a single one ;)

Can the third monitor be an extension?

I've had to exchange the nvidia and instead buy a pair of Radeon 3650 1 gig cards. I could have gotten away with buying a new single card to match the existing Radeon X1600 but thought I'd upgrade to a matching pair.

It was either that or changing the motherboard to an SLI and then buying another 8600GT
