SATA RAID 1 problem

Postby camaroguy1998 » Sun Apr 13, 2008 10:05 pm

Ok, this is linked to another thread I posted sometime ago looking for suggestions on an Intel Build for a friend of mine.
Look Here to refresh your memory!

So here's what happened..........We turned it on, went in and made the basic changes to the BIOS and enabled RAID. Then started the process for setting up the RAID and installing Win XP. For some reason when it comes time to load the RAID driver with the windows install it just keeps passing that up when we hit F6. First thought was faulty keyboard but hooked up a brand new board and it does the same thing! During boot it shows the RAID Array but will not load the drivers. We even tried letting it continue through the XP load and it comes up with "No Mass Storage drive detected" or something real close to that.

Does anyone have any idea what we may have done wrong?

What were the basic changes made to the bios? you said you also enabled raid in the bios? is it a SATA raid? and during boot is there an option available while its showing the array?

Yes it is a SATA RAID 1.

Ok, my friend has been working on this without me since sunday so I cant vouch for any changes at the moment.
Sunday we changed the Boot Sequence, Enabled RAID for the 2 drives, Time & Date, other than that I dont remember anything else.

During boot it gives the option to press F10 to enter the RAID Utility, which we did and setup the array.
Then it reboots and when it comes up again during boot it shows the array with that same option and then continues the boot sequence and starts to load windows at which point it asks you to press F6 if you need to install RAID or other SCSI drivers. Then when it comes time to load the drivers it either does not recognize the array(No Mass Storage Device found) or it just fails.

Is the keyboard USB or PS2?

If it is USB you will have to enable the USB keyboard setting in the BIOS (rather than the OS it will be on already).

It is a PS2 Keyboard and we tried 2 KB's. He has since incorporated some help from someone else who has more experience with RAID than I have. Which wasnt hard to find since I have none but he failed to get it setup and he also agreed with me that the RAID controller must be bad.
They went a head and setup XP on one drive and setup the 2nd drive. He was considering a PCI-e controller card but apparently they are rather expensive and he's already exceeded the budget limit for the system build.
He is now considering other options, possibly backup software.
