Postby smack323 on Mon May 12, 2008 1:46 pm

if a mother board supports DDR2 667/533/400 DDR2 SDRAM will I be able to use DDR2 800 RAM - will it just run at the 667 speed?

You are almost correct, it will run at the speed of the FSB of the processor, unless your overclocking. The bios will only be able to automatically set the memory for those speeds supported, it may not do it correctly for higher rated ram, and you may have to set it yourself

So it should fit fine in the slots? I've tried last week to drop some PC6400 in my old MSI K8N-Neo Platinum to aid my OC I couldn't get it to seat properly. Held each stick up side by side and it appeared longer. Maybe I'm imagining things.

I must be lame. I was kind of frazzled at the time trying to get an old PC back on track for my daughter to use this last weekend. I'll try it again later. Thanks.

Hold up :P

There is a reason it didn't look like it would fit! You are trying to put DDR2 RAM into a DDR motherboard :axe:
