Sorry so late with response, been on holiday. Yes, the heat pipe operates in a vacuum (very low pressure to be more precise). Also, by the way, when describing heat pipe technology you often get the "hehe hundreds of miles per hour?" In point of fact, the velocity of the vapor from the evaporator to the condenser in a heat pipe is actually near sonic speeds (>700Mph). Heat pipes are unbelievable conductors of heat, like 30X that of same diameter of a solid copper rod.
