Galaxy GeForce 9600GT Slim for low-profile systems

When they build it, it will be the best available low-profile card.

Needs a 6-pin connector and probably a larger power supply than slim-PC's come with standard, so I'm not sure it would work in mine. It'd be nice to review one when it is built. Right now the best low-profile card in terms of power is the 8600GT. Galaxy makes one, but I'd prefer the more easily available Chaintech (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814145153). There are mixed reviews about these cards saying they run hot, fans too loud etc, but they are much better than the LP ATI cards.

Also, I'm not sure the Chaintech is HDCP capable, where this Galaxy card will be.

Of course all this is irrelevant if you use a normal-sized desktop

If they don't have to cripple the card's performance too much that would be quite a decent low profile card.

If you are stuck with a low profile case, have you tried using a PCIe riser that will allow you to put the graphics card flat with the motherboard? The downside to that is that it will more than likely block all other expansion ports, but worth it if you actually want to try and game

I've actually never seen that before, so that is quite cool. But at the same time I'm not sure if there's much space to even mount a full-sized card horizontally without getting in the way of the other expansion slots in some way. And definitely have to worry about how cooling could work out in a way without getting the system too hot.

Most likely sucky graphic card issues. Only having a half height case means that it's either basic or integrated graphics as decent graphics cards don't come in a half height variant (Which I'm presuming is the OP's reason for liking this card so much )

Space to fit it in could be a problem, so grab a tape measure and guage the room there.
Does your current case have one of those air vents over the PCI expansion bit on the side of the case? That should be good air draw in for the graphics card, but if it isn't you could always cut some holes in your case if you badly want the card.

I'd have to cut holes anyway for that it seems, the card needs an exit to the outside world somehow. It'd be easier to change my whole case.

And yeah, the slim case is about half the width of a normal case, which fits about everything except normal-sized video cards. But really nowadays with the larger cooling systems on video cards, even normal cases are having a tougher time fitting the cards, particularly when you have to consider power consumption as well. They should be aiming to produce better graphics with lower power consumption, lower size requirements, and less heating issues.

How nice would it be do have the latest graphics card that only needs a heatsink to take care of its heat production.
