Is my cpu getting bottlenecked?

Postby fordmayhem » Thu Aug 14, 2008 11:29 am

Hi,

Just got a new Graphics card, a ATI Radeon 3650 512mb.

its a great card, can play all my games at around 70-120FPS. ( HL2)

I was playing online in Counter-Strike, and i was getting a good around 60FPS with another 19 people playing usually.

but all of a sudden, about 1 week later, it seems that there is alot of lagg.

If i play any map,server in CS:S i keep getting around 20-30fps.

And if i create my own server, ( for example with 29 bots) it goes to 10 FPS, with around 260Ping.

And, obviously, less bots, more frames, and less ping.

With 1 bot, its still only 50FPS in CS:S.

Also the computer seems slow anyway.

spec:

305w psu
1gb pc2-3200
ati 3650 512mb ddr2
intel p4 2.8ghz H-T ( 512kb or 1mb cache)

Thats pretty much it. also loading up the PC takes a good minute or so after i have logged on.

Would my cpu be too slow, or would i be needing more RAM?

I was thinking,

2gb pc2-4200,

or,

another intel P4 maybe 3ghz, or 3.2ghz

if anyone can help... thanks alot.

maybe it's just time to clean up your computer. Everytime my computer gets that slow I uninstall every not needed software, do a defrag, a full virus scan and adjust the system startup registry ( deactivate all the autostartprogrames which I don't need or want). If you are using microsoft office deactivate the startup of all CTFMON.EXE, that should help too.

might want to try that
