how much power am I using

Postby XstollieX » Fri Dec 19, 2008 10:05 am

How do I figure out how much power my rigs are using per day. I have a P-3 kill-a-watt on the way but it only tells my draw. I don't know the formula for converting it. I just got my electric bill for last month and I am using almost double the power of last year at this time. 19kwh per day more on average. Wife wasn't to happy that's why my ppd has been down atm.

Same here with the electric bill. I just give Natasha more money. That seems to do the trick. Kind of nice right now with it getting cold, Keeping the rig folding keeps our place rather nice 74F. As for the power draw, I just know the more you put in your rig the higher the bill.

My rigs are in the basement so it doesn't help with the heating upstairs at all. I just want to find where I can trim some power so I can fold more without wife aggro

Well convert the wattage the killawatt tells you into kW's (1000W in a kW), then multiply that number by how many hours the device is left on a day. This gives you the electric cost of the device in kWh, which is the standard unit of electric for billing.

On your electric bill there should be a section that tells you how much you are being charged for kWh's.

Take the cost per kWh, and multiply it by the kWh figure that you worked out earlier, and there you have how much it will cost to run your device for the day.

((W/1000)24)$=cost per day if I understand you right. For some reason I was thinking it was more complex than that.
