Update =WMP seems to be broken in some aspects. Have had problems playing MP3 files from a network location.

I tried this out after seeing your post but couldn't find any problems and mp3 files played normally? What was it doing or not doing for you?

Yes it does, there is a workaround at the F@H forums, I can't find it at the moment, but I am folding SMP with windows 7 no problem

After I disabled UAC it started working normally! Previously it would run, but not get past "Writing local files" even though it had my Quad pegged at 100% CPU usage. I let it run for 12 hours but never saw any change. I'm more surprised the GPU client runs perfectly normally, I guess I am still remembering how tricky it was to get working last summer on Vista 64...

Glad you found the source of the issue!

I spoke to soon about having fixed the F@H SMP client issues though. I spent awhile poking around the F@H forums but didn't ever find the solution or anyone reporting issues either. At first the SMP client was working like normal, got up to ~6% before I rebooted. Now each time I launch the program it starts over at 0%... but the CPU usage is zero. Completely different problem from the first time I tried it. I think I'll just forgo SMP folding until they can design a proper 64bit compatible program that is not based off the buggy original 5.91 client mpich code.

I'll have more stuff to update with soon. I'm on my work laptop and I don't have nearly as much software installed on it as I do on my desktop.

edit: Cool feature I just found (doesn't seem to be in Vista after checking a co-workers laptop): If you have OneNote installed, try pressing the Windows button and "S". It will open the snipping tool and automatically save the image in OneNote under a new page. You can then move the image wherever you want in OneNote. Makes taking screenshots so much easier when you're documenting stuff. As an IT person this makes my job alot easier.

F-secure Anti-Virus 2009 and F-secure Protection 2009 (AV included) both have some major incompatibilities with Windows 7. I suggest avoiding the software altogether if on W7...

• Most drive emulation programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%
• Google Chrome (64-bit only) (although can be fixed with a command line argument)
• Revo Uninstaller (64-bit only)

However, my experience is that most programs run perfectly and I haven't had an issue outside of these few. I could name the programs I have installed, but it's probably better to name which ones don't work.

Had a bit more time to play around with Windows 7 RC. Using it on a nettop (D945GCLF2-based build) which doesn't have an optical drive so drive emulation software is kind of a must. Slysoft's Virtual CloneDrive 5.4.3.2 seems to work just fine. I was able to install printer drivers, Microsoft Office, etc from ISOs located on a network drive and mounted using VCD. On another note, the printer works fine, too (Canon MF4270). I tried Windows Media Center and to my delight, the one included with Windows 7 was more responsive than the one in Vista. Looks like Win7 is shaping up to be the operating system to get, especially for HTPC purposes. Now if Microsoft would just released the Netflix update for Win7 RC.

Anyone else having problems with Firefox 3.5.2?

It is constantly freezing and I no longer can click links on a google page.

I haven't found much on the Google issue, except that there is a DNS issue, but seems that people aren't happy at the general performance of 3.5.2 with 7.

So has anyone thought about the Vista-to-7 upgrade being a problem? Like there were problems with XP-to-Vista way-back-when. Systems died. It was a sad day for all.

I am using firefox 3.5.3 on Windows 7 with no problems.

Quickbooks 2004 partially works.
When I start it up I get the message "The file you specified cannot be opened make sure that it is not currenty being used by another program or a read-only file.
The Windows error was 'Access is denied.'." And I can click OK This comes up 5 times in a row but then everything works fine in the program.

Everything hardware wise has worked on it that I've tried, sometimes you needed to disable driver signing though. Then it says you are running in "Test Mode 7600" or something like that in the lower right corner.
I found this Codec Pack for Window 7, and it seems to play just about anything, worked great for my windows media center with 8600GTS and AMD 3800x2 (939) and 2GB of DDR 400. Windows 7 64 Ultimate.

HandBrake worked good for me, so did ImgBurn, as well as SmartDefrag.

CDBurnerXp didn't seem to recognize my dvd burners, but i'm not sure if it's hardware or windows related.

I wish Firefox or Chrome would go 64bit and have flashplayer support for 64, java has 64 .
