Please Fold One For My Grandma!

Postby Apoptosis » Wed Feb 25, 2009 9:59 am

After returning from Vacation this past week I found out my Grandma fell and broke her pelvic bone at home and was in the hospital here in St. Louis.

The doctors weren't treating her right, so I spent the day with her yesterday. It wasn't hard to see her in the hospital, it was hard to see her not know who I was. Her Alzheimer's has gotten bad enough that she doesn't know who I am. I was a stranger to her and it tore me apart when the nurse came in the room after I had been there for about four hours and my grandma asked who the stranger was in the room (me). For being over 90 she is in great health, but her mind is now gone. She asked about her grandsons and knew 'Nathan' but she couldn't put me with the name... Really a nutty disease and it's heart wrenching to see anyone go through it.

I've lost one grandma to Cancer and now I've lost the other one to Alzheimer's... We will all encounter these problems with our loved ones, so please continue to fold if not to help others for yourself when you get old.

Here is a picture of my grandma sitting in a chair and sleeping (they forced her to sit in a chair as she laid in a bed the past two days and they wouldn't let her up or out of the bed). She's in really good condition for her age and her body looks like it will go on, but the mind is a different story. I thought I'd open up and share this with you as I had to tell someone to get that off my chest.

Sorry to hear that... I'm thankful my great grandmother kept her mental health til she passed, but her body just up and gave out on her. :/
I'm definitely putting up more PPD than I ever have before, thanks to my family's permission to commandeer the studio and family PCs. Just last night I sent this FAHmon shot to Dan on MSN

It's not a ton, and I have yet to actually break 10K per day, but I am still passionate about doing something with the computers at my disposal.
Hope that you and your family are finding some stronger bonds in each other now, and I'll definitely pray for you and your family.

I know what your going through. Went through it with my grandma. She has been gone for almost 9 years now.

When she did go she thought it was the 50's.

It runs in my family, skips a generation (so far that's the track record) so I'm screwed, but if that is the case but my kids will be fine and that is all that matters to me.

Fold on, maybe this can be stopped.

I feel your heartache Nate, my wife is going through all this with her mother and father!
Her mom suffers from Alzheimer's and dimentia. She fell about 1 1/2 yrs ago and broke her pelvis and has never fully recovered. Some days she does ok others she has no idea who anyone is :(

Her father's mind is still pretty sharp but his body is shutting down bit by bit.
This past weekend was spent at 2 different hospitals with her father after his heart stopped during a cath. test friday morning.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family! [-o<

That sucks. I'll make sure I get a solid 24hr production run for her.

I am sorry to hear about your Grandmother! I hope one day that these diseases will be curable and nobody else will have to go through the mental or physical suffering!
