Windows 7 Home Premium Family pack (3 user) $120 (AC)

Staples has the Windows 7 Family pack for sale for a cool $149.99.

$149 - 30 off $150 coupon from e-junkie (google "e-junkie staples" from there go to the e-junkie website and you will see the links)

You will need a filler to get over the $150 (here is a $0.29 filler)

NOTE: allows users to upgrade up to three PCs to the Home Premium edition of the operating system

Maybe they just don't want to sell to me. It still says, "Currently out of stock" when I check.

Not to worry though, the filler item is still available.

From what I understand, here are the requirements for the "upgrade":

* Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000; Windows Vista; Windows XP Service Pack 2

* .NET Framework 2.0 or higher if running Windows XP

Only Windows Vista users will be able to do an in-place upgrade. This means that Windows XP or 2000 users will be forced to do a clean install.

In order to install the upgrade version of Windows 7, you must have a qualifying Windows operating system installed and activated. You cannot install an upgrade version of Windows 7 on a blank hard drive. The installation procedure does not ask you to insert a Windows disc in the drive for verification, the actual qualifying operating system must be installed.

If you do not have a qualifying Windows operating system installed with a genuine license activated, then you cannot use the upgrade version of Windows 7 - you would need a "full version" Windows 7 license.

In summary:

1. A qualifying Windows operating system must be installed.
2. The qualifying Windows operating system must have a genuine license (product key) and it must be activated.
3. To upgrade, boot to the qualifying Windows desktop, insert the Windows 7 Upgrade disc in the DVD drive.
4. When the setup menu appears, select Custom (advanced) to initiate a clean install procedure.

There is a couple ways to activate a upgrade key doing a fresh install. The best way is If you have a technet or MSDN account, download the RTM image. Follow step three from this http://www.windowsvalley.com/blog/create-windows-7-aio-all-in-one-dvd-or-merge-all-editions-of-windows-7-in-single-dvd/, do a fresh install and activate. The long way is use the upgrade disc to install windows. After windows is installed do a upgrade install from windows.

Found another way to activate upgrade copies doing a fresh install at this site http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/clean_install_upgrade_media.asp

First, perform a normal clean install of the OS by booting the PC with the Upgrade Setup disc and stepping through Setup.

After performing the clean install, ensure that there are no Windows Updates pending that would require a system reboot. (You'll see an orange shield icon next to Shutdown in the Start Menu if this is the case).

Then, open regedit.exe with Start Menu Search and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE/

Change MediaBootInstall from "1" to "0".

Open the Start Menu again and type cmd to display a shortcut to the Command Line utility. Right-click this shortcut and choose "Run as administrator." Handle the UAC prompt.

In the command line window, type: slmgr /rearm

Then tap ENTER, close the command line window and reboot. When Windows 7 reboots, run the Activate Windows utility, type in your product key and activate windows. It should just work.
