The old boat was on Build It Bigger on the Science channel. They said on the show after each race the turbines get a once over and the damaged veins replaced. Guess the salt water tears up the turbines fairly quick.

I can believe it as that was one of the reasons Convair's Sea Dart didn't go into production!!
