1156 Mobo question

Postby CaptChuck » Fri Oct 30, 2009 10:35 pm

I'm putting a new system together with the i7-860 processor. I only play with my computers, so I need some advise from you experts out there.
I don't (or at least haven't up to this point!) overclock so I'm looking for a board which will be stable at stock settings and not cost a ton (since I just spent THAT on a vid card  ).
I'm currently looking at the EVGA 123-lf-E653-KR (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813188054)
and:
The ASUS P7P55D (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813131404)

I'd appreciate your thoughts on those or ideas if you know of a better one. Also...What RAM would you use on them??

Thanks in advance.

Do you want to run SATA 6GB/s or USB 3.0?

If so you might want to wait a few days for one of these - http://www.legitreviews.com/news/6716/

As for RAM any of the big US companies should work - Kingston, Corsair, OCZ are all solid choices.

I read that review. The question I have is, would it improve the throughput of the video card I'm going to use (Sapphire Vapor-X 5870) or do I have to wait for new hardware to come out???

throughput should be bout the same as your current rig...only difference will be that of course the 5870 card will be faster performance wise

Well, I ended up with this: ASRock P55 Extreme LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813157172)
I liked the price/feature ratio and being able to mount a 775 CPU cooler instead of being limited to just the few 1156 coolers available.

So my build will look like this:
NZXT Beta EVO mid tower
Above MOBO
i7-860 CPU ($15.00 rebate at ZZF!!)
Masscool CPU cooler
4Gb Mushkin DDR3 1600
OCZ ModXStream 700W PSU
Sapphire 5870 Vapor-X
Samsung 750GB 7200rpm 32MB cache HD
Sony DVD burner
Sony DVD ROM
Win 7 Home Prem

Assuming some luck with shipping, I'll be up and running a week from now!!
