i have cpu thermal throttling on in the bios and was wonder if that maybe whats causing me the problems of not being able to overclock fully. what setting should i reduce it to if i want to overclock to 4ghz well at least try get that?

My first question is what temps are you getting to with the highest stable clock? You may have just hit the roof for your chip, they all don't do the same.

For it to throttle its got to be getting toasty.

That is weird, what is the shutdown temp set to?

shut off temp is at 70c but i cant overclock past 375mhz fsb. i just get annoyed as to why! anything past that mhz causes my pc to start up normally then freeze at the log in screen. i thought that it could be due to vcore not being high enough so i set it to 1.3 volts and still got same probs then agian at 1.4 and 1.5 still no boot up at log in screen. any suggestions?

you cant just boost the voltage by .1 at a time, thats way too drastic, its an art, essentially try every voltage available in BIOS(usually like every .0125v or so) to get it, OCing takes a lot of time, but its worth it in the end, and it wont be stable unless you really take your time

and usually its as sensitive as: lets take my E7200, 3.42GHz is stable at 1.41v and no other voltage(not even 1.405 or 1.415), you kinda have to get lucky with it sometimes

i have tried changing my vcore from 1.2 (as it stands since i have overclocked to 3.562ghz) every .0125 up to 1.5 volts and this is with my FSB at 375mhz trying to get a stable boot up at 376mhz FSB (3.572ghz). It just won't work, i can't get it to boot up fully past 375mhz no matter what vcore i use  I have however, managed to put my vcore at 1.2 down to 1.14 with my overclock at 3.562ghz and still got a successful boot up and it run lightly cooler and 31c idle not 33c 46c full load not 48c :supz: still trying to get it lower until my system is not successfully booting up O:)

hmm, i guess you've tried other voltages too(my board lists about 10 separate voltages total, all of which i modify, all being a pain to get stable) other than that,i guess your board is limiting you unless you just have a bad chip because my E7200 is at 3.42 from 2.53, and i'm even disappointed with THAT oc, but my board limits me, and the E8xxx normally OC better than E7xxx
