Folding@Home on Core i7 processors for big points

Probably. I turned it down to 3.6 ghz and it gave a BSOD..but I had both my gpu's folding when that happened(I tried to go ape i guess)...so far, same clock speed but no gpu folding, it's been steady.

I just started folding big adv with my intel 860 all 8 cores going 100% I overclocked to 3.33 with good temps so far. I pulled out one gtx 285 and the other one is just sitting there. It should give me more points, right?

Update: I put one gtx 285 in folding. My wireless router is giving me really bad signal so I bought a new one, but I don't think that is the issue. Looks like VM ware is a seperate internet line. So instead of having two rigs wireless, it shows as four. Now the big issue I have is this morning the circuit breaker tripped. I don't know if it was a power surge or to many things going on one circuit. All I know is that I have find a fix for this. Any thoughts? And today was my biggest point day ever!

What I have going right now is: 2 big adv points fah6 smp 8. 1 gtx 285, 1 gtx 260, and 2 gts 250's. I still need to make a home for another gtx 285. If I win the rig I still have a couple of gtx 280's that I'm not sure work but that's ok. I didn't like them anyway. Tonight I am going to try a new router to see if I don't get any drop outs. No connection, no new WU. Still hope it was a power surge and not that I am overloading the circuit. big adv points are with the 980 and the 860.

Nice going on the double bigadv hit today, I to am running vmmare on wireless, the problems that I have had have been with not enough power from the motherboard or usb port to have a strong signal. I moved one machine very close to my router and both machines seem to have benefited from it.

What's your power bill like?

According to the news today, with all the new and upcoming changes that the government, power company, etc. are making, our power bill is going to double per month. They estimate that the average houehold's power bill is going to increase by $300/year.

Just got my electric bill yesterday. This month the bill is 162.24. Looks like it has gone from 68 dollars without folding to 162.24. Like the old saying goes, you have to pay to play. At least it is for a good cause.

No issues with the electric bill here. My new router is very quick and strong signal. The only issue I have now is that F@H is not receiving my big adv. work unit. It downloaded a A3 core and is burning through it. I hope it receives my WU. I just told Natasha "I don't know what else to buy" I think I am done for a couple of years. I hope everyone is folding strong. As far as how many points I am getting with my 980x. I don't have a clue. All I know is that it doesn't like a overclock. At least what I tried so far.

if you need a board/cpu to put those GPUs in i have a midrange amd board i need to get rid of and has two pcie slots(xfire but you cant use folding+sli at the same time anyway)
can even throw in a stick of DDR3 if you dont have any

lol i'll take em worst case is shipping on the warranty right?

i prolly know how you feel, i had a 4670 die after the second time i RMA'd the damn thing, just plucked off anything i thought i could use afterwards(common arctic cooling heatsink, IC heatsinks) and threw it away, but thats not quite as high-value as a 280

They have already have been RMA'd. One night both were folding and windows did a update and both cards stopped working. I gave up and I bought two gtx 285 cards to replace them. I must say that the 280's have been nothing but trouble for me. I don't think the warranty applies here since I already replaced them once or twice.

I'll give it a try, again. Last time it took a week of bull just so they would let me send them back. All I know is that this monday I am going to have a huge update since I can't connect to the sever to send results.

Just an update: I can't connect to get a new work unit with VM ware big adv points. What a bummer. geokilla, I don't think the gtx 280's work so when I am in the mood I will try to get them to work. Until then I will keep doing what I'm doing. Maybe I'll just run over them with my truck!
