Computex 2010 Show Floor Coverage - Day 0

It's our first day in Taiwan and Computex doesn't start until tomorrow, but that didn't stop us from getting a preview of some of the innovative new products that will be seen at the show this week. Read on to see some pictures of the show being setup and to see some of the first new products that we spotted. Included are the Antec Lanboy Air PC case, Evercool Transformer 4 CPU Cooler and more!

COMPUTEX in TAIPEI is world’s second largest and Asia’s largest ICT tradeshow, and begins tomorrow. COMPUTEX TAIPEI is one of the few ICT tradeshows with continued growth (in scale, visitors, and exhibitors) in the face of global economic downturn while some other tradeshows had to reduce their exhibition days and areas. 1,750 exhibitors have signed up for COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2010, using 4,700 booths-- an increase of 50 exhibitors and 205 booths from previous year. It is expected the show will attract a record-breaking 35,000+ international buyers this year. The platform that gather the best partners, prices, concepts, and components generated business worth an estimated US$20bn last year.

We couldn't get any closer than this photo and got no details, but it appeared to support a Mini-ITX platform.

Those vacuum tube radios are always interesting to see. Some other vendors tried it, but it just didn't really take off. There's probably a surplus of those still sitting in some 1960s warehouse just collecting dust. The down side to those hybrids is what do you do when they stop selling the radio? Or, what happens when you need a replacement? It's not like you can run out and pick them up anywhere. Still cool to see.

It's crazy to think that TVs and radios from 1950 had about 50 pounds worth of steel frame to hold all the circuit boards containing up to 50 vacuum tubes at a time. Nothing like a 15 pound radio, or a 350 pound TV.

My last job required me to do the trade show circuit. All I can say is that it is not fun at all. People think that since you get to travel and see the land it's fun. But what they don't understand is you are working. You have to setup the booth, tear it down, work all day on your feet, lose your voice talking to people, answer the same 20 questions 1000+ times over the course of a weekend, and somewhere in there get some sleep. The bigger companies hired crews to assemble and disassemble their booths, my company not so much.

the key as a spectator is to wait until teardown to get swag as the people working the booths don't want to transport it so you can take all that they have left sometimes(for pens and misc. items, not things like mainboards sadly )

i would never want to work a booth either, meeting the people that are is another thing tho
