i have an old laptop with an intel core duo processor but now i have found a spare i3 processor can i replace the old intel core douwith the i3?

1) is it the same socket?
2) is the laptops cooling system rated to handle the TDP on the new processor?
3) Does the BIOS on the laptop support the new CPUID string?
