TCL’s manufacturing expertise, vertically integrated supply chain, and state-of-the-art China Star panel factory allow them to make the latest technology with leading edge design ultra-affordable for the US consumer.

“Our mission is to deliver high quality HDTVs with advanced technologies and premium design at an aggressive price to establish the TCL brand in the US,” said Michelle Mao, President, TCL USA. “Similar to what the market saw a dozen years ago with the introduction of HDTVs, 4K UHD TVs are priced so high today that most consumers cannot afford them. As one of the world’s largest TV brands, TCL is able to change that, so we are launching our 50” 4K TV at a $999 MSRP to allow more consumers to enjoy the stunning picture quality and enhanced resolution of UHD TVs. While other brands see the introduction of 4K as an opportunity to make large margins – we see it as an opportunity to demonstrate to US consumers the combination of advanced technology and great value we’ve been delivering across the world for over 30 years.”

I don't understand the push for 4K. Broadcasters can't even send everything out at 1080p and even some stations are not HD at all. Upscaling is ok but I bet it looks like total crap if the incoming signal is not HD in the first place. Might be ok with a 720p signal.

Technology is great, when it's useful. Right now 4K is just worthless with lack of content and the inability of broadcasters to even send 4K signals.

Nice thing about 4K would be hooking multiple devices up to a large screen and being able to divide the screen in four t have a different thing in each quadrant. That would be useful but only on LARGE screens.

X265 was just rolled out this week and that was needed to stream 4K... It is coming as is 1080P thanks to the new encoding and transmission methods.

It's the same thing everytime consumer TV technology changes...Broadcasters/studios won't support 4K until there are enough users out there. Users don't want 4K until there is a steady supply of movies/shows. It takes time for it to become popular. Companies like this will help speed that up, however TCL being an unknown company might be hard for it to break into the market; even at this great price.

Personally, I can't wait to get a 4K screen, after seeing them at CES they look incredible.
