Sounds great bro! Need to have someone make you a new banner. Wish I could remember who did mine. I think it was Beaker or Skierkid.

I was just saying......Don't want to replace my present rig because it is still pretty awesome but then saw this post.......man, I don't want to get the bug to start a project especially an e x p e n s i v e project. But man the system you're building is sweet, quite a project indeed. My son took one look and said "Dad, we gotta build one of those", lol. Not yet, but soon, yeah soon.

Thanks for the kind comments :P

We'll have to see if I get time at Christmas to give this baby the tidying up it needs.

Picture update!

Image

I've installed a Scythe Kazemaster fan controller in it as well, so can really turn the fans down super low. Unfortunately this means I can now hear my pump a lot, so am thinking about either swapping to a quieter (albeit less powerful) pump, or ditching the water completely and going back to air. Tough decision as either way it's a lot of effort :-k

Image

I was even able to keep the wires behind it tidy  :

That looks amazing Dan! I'd be heartbroken if I new you went back to air cool after seeing the pics of this rig evolve over time. I really like your fan controller. Simple and easy to read.

Well by a lot of peoples definition, my rig will be quiet.

But I'm finding myself wanting it to be near silent! :ANAL:

The pumps not particularly loud either, but it's not silent enough, so at the very least I will want to change it at some point.
(and if i went back to air, I would be running very near completely passive to get it to be quieter)

BUMP!
Dan if you want quiet then you should go for a external water cooler like i did. i got a Zalman Reserator 1V2 (http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/Pro ... sp?Idx=183) these are SLIENT. no fans required(but you can get the optional fan kit) it is virtually a 2.5L tank with a pump at the bottom. mine cools the CPU, NB, SB, GPU(well not yet i need to get the block), also this system is very easy to blead all you have to do is cut off the two tubes ends and it will empty in about 1 min, it is also very easy to re-fil the system just re-connect and turn it back on simple as(ive done this around 5 times haha), it managed to cool my P4 3.0Ghz(yes i kno a P4 now a Q6600 G0) when on air it was 70 degrees idle and 80-85 on load, on water it was 28-29 idle and 30-35 on load, but the bad point is that the tank is pretty big but does the job brilliantly.

Dan, would it reduce the noise if you isolated the pump from the case... with some type of foam or something in between?

no foam wouldn't do the job, you need something like rubber dampers(something that can vibrate) i kno this because i have 3 pro lighting effects 1 is the MK1 1991 spec(doesn't have dampers on the motors) and barks like hell when the mirror moves, and i have 2 MK2's 1996 spec witch have rubber dampers and u can't hear a sound out of it

I'm already steps ahead of you :P

I've suspended the pump with some elastic shock bungie cord stuff. So it's now vibrating away and I can't hear it :P

Thanks for the link mark, but I'm not convinced about the Reserators effectiveness at WC :axe:

everyone has their own opinion, but i have to admit they are pretty good but are huggee its bigger than my Alienware P2 chassis(in terms of height) btw Dan Zalman were the first people to get a PC down to the noise level of 28Db which is low for a PC
(don't hate my for this) but id rather have a Mac than a PC, but i need a PC for my job and school work and playing games (of course) |^)

Macs are sexy, but I can't stand the OS (Have to use one at work, and while i'm slowly getting more used to it, windows just seems more logical and straightforward). I'd probably wipe OSX and put Vista or something on if I got one of my own :P

Well I discovered last night that my PSU is now the culprit for the most noise in my case. Although it's a PCP&C sliencer, it's only got an 80mm fan, and it is too loud. I'm going to look at getting a quiet 120mm one, and if I do that it'll take my rig to a whole new level of quietness (I tried jamming the fan in the PCP&C for a few mins and my rig was really really quiet).

Next on the list after that will be the HDDs, they're on those rubber grommet things at the minute, but I've got enough bungie cord to suspend those too :D

Dan, I don't know if you can get Corsair over there in the UK but I absolutely love my HX620. Modular cables and dead silent plus no LED's. I'm definatly getting another Corsair for my next rig.

heat piped cooled http://www.dabs4work.com/productview.as ... 9,49450000
also the corsair one http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/620W-Cor ... EW-VERSION!
tbh i would go with a higher power one good for future updates, i need a 1.5 KW power supply thanks to GTX 295's!!

I'm looking at getting the Seasonic M12D, SPCR rate it as one of the quietest PSUs they've ever tested (quieter than the corsair even), and I trust SPCR when it comes to noise readings 8)
