EVGA from Fry's in Tempe, AZ. The clerk told me he sent back all the GTS from BFG and GTX from EVGA. They also told me release date was 10th of Nov...I'm lucky the card even turns on. :D 58C idle ain't too shabby tho.

I take that back... it's a 68C resistor, which means the card I just got still has the resistor issue... bleh Glad to see you got a good one!

I am having serious issues with 2 8800GTX from XFX have checked and ead the link and checked the resistor on both cards and they appear to read "223" Or if i have it upside down "E22" but i reckon it's 223 anyone got any ideas before i ship them back to vendor?

What are your serious issues? Please list your full system specifications and what memory timings and all that you are using.

System Specs are:

Conroe 6600 (on vapochill XEII @ -35)
2Gb Corsair TwinX DDR2 XMS2, PC8500 (1066), 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 5-5-5-15, EPP
2x XFX 8800GTX
EVGA 680i Mobo
Soundblaster XFi Platinum
Tagan 900W PSU
NO overclocking, all bios settings at default / auto values

Issues are in 3d mark 05 for example i get anywhere from just 5k to about 9k in single mode, with absoloutly NO performance increase in SLI. At the moment idle temps are 67 on primary 65 on secondary and after a 3d mark o3 test (which returned a crappy score of just 17,000) put my 7800GTX back in and ran an Aquamark (it's quicker than 3dmark) and that returned a score of 109,508 (gfx=18,327 Cpu = 13,590)
So i put 1 of the 8800's in and ran it again and i got 62,734 (gfx=8,148 cpu=13,610) An aqua bench on the 2nd card returned 62,691 (gfx=8145 cpu=13,613) I guess both cards go back to the vendor for replacement tomorrow, just hope i can convince them that both cards are goosed.

Sounds like you aren't running SLI... Which means it's either a driver issue or something in the BIOS of the board. What driver version are you running? ONly 96.97 and higher support SLI on the 8800GTX video cards. As for aquamark 3 I'm not sure why you are seeing low scores, but that benchmark is old and might not be supported in the drivers for the 8800GTX's yet... Try current benchmarks and games and see if everything works out.

Latest drivers for 8800 GTX are 97.02 on nvidias webby. As for aquamark my mate gets 140K with his 7900 so whilst it may not be as power hungry as 3d mark 05/06 it is a quick way to get an indication of whether or not the card is running at speed. Either way I realise that this part of the forum is not necessarily the place to discuss technical issues and I am taking the cards back for replacement anyway :D Thanks for the info

If you post up some 3dmark06 or FEAR/Quake4/Doom3/farcry/serious sam 2 benchmark numbers you can compare them off mine.

The release notes have a number of SLI issues that are known:

NVIDIA Issues—SLI Mode
• Outputting to an HDTV at 480i or 480p while playing a DVD from Windows Media Player or PowerDVD causes the system to hang. To work around this issue, disable SLI.
• Driver stops responding in SLI mode if the system boots up with no displays attached. To work around this issue, simply make sure a display is attached to a GPU when booting your PC with SLI enabled.
• The system boots with a blank display if the monitor is moved to the
second GPU. To work around this issue, connect the monitor into the display connector that is closest to the motherboard, on the first GPU (the one closest to the CPU).
• Civilization 4: White blocks of corruption appear in the clouds when zooming out.
• Everquest 2, SLI: Flickering water textures/reflections occur when SLI is enabled.
• Far Cry, SLI: Flickering and shifting sky occurs in the Research level when SLI is enabled. This issue does not occur with V-Sync enabled.
• Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, SLI: The desktop becomes corrupted after exiting the game.
• Pacific Fighters, SLI: With SLI mode enabled, there is a large performance drop–from 100-200+ fps–in DirectX mode when accessing the game control panel with enhanced antialiasing enabled. The performance slowdown only affects the game menu, it does not affect ingame performance
• Serious Sam 2, SLI: SLI split line does not show any scaling until a resolution change is made. Although the SLI split line is not moving, FRAPS still should show performance scaling.
• Tiger Woods 2006: Severe corruption appears with wrong textures tiled across the screen.
• Playback fails on Cyberlink Blu-ray player through component-out HDTV at 720p and 1080u. 480p mode plays back with no issues.

isnt a problem now, took cards back, they tested them, got the same problem and promptly swapped them for a pair of EVGA 8800GTX's. Bench'd 14800+ on 3d 05

I originally purchased my first EVGA @ Fry's on release day. It had some issues so I swapped it out with another and it's been ok. But it wasn't a recalled and has the 39C w/ Green Sticker and Black PCB. The Fry's guy told me to come back right @ my 30 day return to swap out wo/ the new ones. Sure enough, it's a 40C...but it's on a green pcb! Any ideas?

The one I got tonight didn't have Dark Messiah either. It's already registered w/ my Steam account, so I have no idea what's gonna happen there. :confused: Also, is it just me, or does the green pcb look better made?

You'll be perfectly fine with a 40C resistor

39C = 24k9
40C = 25k5

The values are close enough to where it shouldn't matter and companies change the components (BOM) as a product goes on anyway.

Remember the original resistor was

68C = 49k9

You should be good to go... as for green looking better... Personal taste...

I just got in another XFX GeForce 8800GTX and it has a 40C resistor on it and was not reworked... looks like XFX is also shipping new cards, so all the re-works seem to be out of the market channel now.
