Intel has allowed for controlled benchmarking of their next generation Penryn series processors and Legit Reviews brings you the numbers on how the test drive went. The Intel Yorkfield and Wolfdale 45nm processors both operated at 3.33GHz and shows some serious processing muscle. Read on and see if Intel's 45nm quad-core and dual-core processors are on the right path!

Time to upgrade again?! I was just getting comfy with my Kentsfield.

The Yorkfield performance looks great but I'm having my doubts they will be able to go much higher in speed before they tip 150w. Previous roadmaps had them stopping at 3.33GHz. Wolfdale on the other hand was shown to be close to 4GHz!

release date is still 2H of 2007.... Since the new X38 chipset is due out in Q3 I would guess the CPU would launch along with it!

I'm sure pricing will remain close to the same figures all the flagship processors have ever launched at.

Is Intel going to hold out on the real performers till AMD releases something? Seeing on fudzilla they say that AMD's new cpu had a 62%OC that may mean they have ramp speeds for release after as Intel and them do the speed dance again. I hope their is real competition and not just one barely outdoing the other even though they can do much better for the same price.

Not necessarily, as usually we can OC to the real speeds. It's just a matter of time before both Up the speeds on their own. granted better steppings and refining the processes will help them with better yeilds and possibly better thermals for us.

You see the diffrence between Wolfdale and Yorkfield? It is almost 40% - and only diffrence is 6 vs 12 mb cache. I don't beleive that this will affect real(not marks) performance that much. What do you think?

Sorry for digging up this thread, but could anybody comment on the "voltage modifications" that have been applied to that D975XBX2 Rev.505 Mainboard to properly run Wolfdale and Yorkfield 45nm CPUs? I have previously run an E8500 Wolfdale on my old D975XBX Rev.305, but the board died, and I have bought a D975XBX2 Rev.509 now, intending to run my Wolfdale on that board again too.

So, it would be very nice if anybody could tell me what modifications are necessary to properly support a Wolfdale or Yorkfield CPU on that mainboard.
