The evga 650i Ultra 775 A1: Another new Nvidia chipset

The new 650i Ultra chipset lacks SLI support SLI, but offers strong features and performance for a ~$100 motherboard. The NVIDIA 650i Ultra chipset supports 1333MHz FSB processors and we were able to take it to 1950MHz with ease. I'm going over to a friends parents house tonight as they want a new PC and this board is also tops on my suggestion list for them. E6600 and this board is what I'm thinking paired with a decent PSU and value memory for them.

As you can see, this thing is bare... no heatsink at all, and this baby gets HOT!!! If you get this board and plan to overclock, you will certainly want to check into some type of after market cooler. If you notice, the holes are already there, so adding a cooler will not be a problem.

okay i'm curious as to what southbridge heatsink in particular anyone would recommend pairing with this budget board?

About the southbridge, do you have like an old vga heatsink? I dont think you need anything extreme for a southbridge, as long as the case air circulation is good. that heatsink would be fine. I personally like a low RPM fan on it if possible. There are several brands available out there.

If you want to keep the Evga look and want a low profile solution and don't mind a fan.........get it direct from EVGA.

Looks like you could run into clearance problems using taller passive solutions with the SB right next to the PCI-e slot. If you look straight back from the PCI-e slot, the video card passes right over the outline of a standard SB heatsink profile. So a lowprofile cooler is going to be required if you have any sort of video card that is long enough to reach the SB..............

Also depending on the hole spacing, this one might be a good option for a passive option.............;)

That is a nice motherboard, that would be a great alternative to the 965.
