AMD retires Athlon name...

Postby HONkUS » Thu May 03, 2007 4:21 pm

K10 processors are to drop the "Athlon" name and will be dubbed "Phenom"

So.

FX Line becomes Phenom FX
Quad Core becomes Phenom X4
Dual Core becomes Phenom X2

This is per Fudzilla

I really like the Athlon name, it reminds me of running a marathon to win.

So, what is with the really weird name of Phenom? It doesn't even click with me. The closest word liking to it is a misspeeled word of pneumonia!

OK, after a quick look, it's named after some India rock group.

I'm betting it's actual the first part of the word Phenomenal or Phenomenon...hope the performance can live up to the name :?

Come to think of it, we should all know that muppets song...

Yes, but your processor will be forced to use HT2, the main benefit from AM2+ is the introduction of HT3. AMD will not use DDR3 until AM3 which is scheduled for the second half of 2008.

Postby amdme127 » Tue Jun 19, 2007 4:49 pm

I am a big fan of the athlon from having a couple. But change is bound to come and I hope it is a good change, I want this processor to be amazing and make its name as athlon made its name big, through success
