Windows Boot Manager

Postby martini161 » Tue Jun 10, 2008 3:36 pm

I used to have a dual boot going with xp and vista, but i recently decided to just have xp as i never use vista. so i wrote all zeros to that partition and made one big partition. but windows boot manager still comes up every time i restart, and since the default option is vista, if im not home and my comp restarts then all the stuff i run off xp all the time (f@h, Servers and whatnot) wont run. is there any way i can get rid of this darned thing?

Go to System Properties (don't remember exactly where it is in XP but in Vista you right click My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced system settings) then go to the Advanced tab and theres Startup and Recovery settings, go there, change the default OS to XP and remove the "Time to display..." checks.

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
Click the Advanced tab, and then under Startup and Recovery, click Settings

this doesn't seem to work, because i think vista's boot manager is doing this not xp's. does any one know the file and location of vista's boot manager?

Didn't you wipe vista?

To hack rid of the vista bootloader, you can grab your XP install disk, go into the recovery console and tell it to "FIXMBR"

It will reload the windows xp loader for you.

Try VistaBootPRO at http://www.pro-networks.org. It will allow you to remove an OS entry or maybe you could set the default countdown time to zero.

Whoops, sorry, I thought you wanted to keep Vista and get rid of XP. But maybe you are still using the Vista boot manager so it might work under XP???

If you are running the XP boot manager then try this:
