Bought Velvet Assassin, But Can't Play Because Steam Sucks..

I just got back from Target where I picked up the game title Velvet Assassin, but I can't play it because the online product activation won't work...

I sit on this screen for 5-10 minutes:

I find myself ticked off that I can't play the game even though I bought it... Heck I could have downloaded a cracked copy and been playing by this time. Game makers want to wonder why pirating is increasing and this is one of the reasons if you ask me. It's not even a hot game title... it was 50% off in the clearance section. lol

i've personally never heard of it, the only no-name games i have i buy from steam so activation isnt a problem(ie, geometry wars, it's epic on 360, but PC version is lacking at best) although i've had my fair share of games that don't work properly, like DiRT has an issue where the DVD doesn't get recognized properly when you try to play it, so codemasters came out with a Patch which basically is a no-CD crack, lol

I'm probably half way through the game. It's a lot like Splinter Cell but not as cool. If nothing else you could probably have found a "fix" and played the game anyway.
