XFX 5770

Was thinking of getting an XFX 5770. The mainboard I was thinking of getting with it syas it has one PCI- E 2.0 X16 slot that runs at X 4. What does that mean in layman terms. Would I be better of with a board that has full X16 PCI-E or is it not really that important at this level of card.

the 5770 is a decent card.. I would go with a motherboard that supports X16 not X4 - that is basically telling you that there is less bandwith to move data.

What is the model number of the board that you are getting? The 5770 is a great mainstream gaming graphics card.

from the articles i've read atleast pci express 2.0 x8 or 4 GB/s. how much cheaper is the x4 board compared to a x16 board anyway? is there some reason you want this x4 board?

Not attached to the board at all, here it is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128430 not sure why Gigabyte would make this. I figured H57 was the next advance in chipset above the H55 then I noticed it was only x4 on the PIC slot.

Maybe I'm up too late and saw wrong, but that h57 board you linked, does say it has a full speed pci-e 2.0 16x ..the other slot would go at 4x. so you should be fine

yeah the h57 board is fine. its saying there is one pci express 2.0 x16 and 1 pci express x4 slot that is not 2.0. but this is kinda of weird cause i read the h57 has only 8 pci express lanes. probally gonna lose 2-10 percent between x8 to x16

that first one you had would be fine the main slot is x16, if you run a second card it would be at x4

I would go for a 5850, but if you buy one 5770 now, then you could buy anotherone (when the prices drop) and run them in cross fire. That would boost your performance nicely!

The 4870 is not DX11 which the 5770 is. In the reviews the 4870 is not tested against the same games as the 5770 so I can't really "see" what the difference is to offset the lack of DX 11 on the 4870. It is a little cheaper than the XFX 5770 model XXX but there is not a review of the XXX model just the "plain" 5770. All of that to say its hard to put the two cards I am looking at head to head. The Saphire HD 4870 at 169 or the XFX HD 5770 XXX at 189. The 5850 is out of my range...I am already pushing it past what I originally had in mind...sub 150ish. From what I can see in the reviews section here there is a substantial jump in performance from the cards that run from $100- $150 to those that run $169-$199. I have an 8800GTS now so I am sure anything above an HD 4650 would be a step up but I need the upgrade to last through my next CPU upgrade which will take me into the i3 intel with DDR3 with the intention of upping to an i7 later. I cannot afford the 5850 so ...

It really comes down to this; what are you using your pc for?
Gaming ; its good, if you are not going for the highest settings, and have a large screen. Online gaming is less demanding, the priority is performance and speed over details.
Office /work ; its more than good enough! Go for the 5750!
And like I said, with that mobo, you allways have the possibility of going crossfire if you want extra "eyfinity"

I know this is a bit late but the 5830 as been launched now and while the price is inflated in my opinion it should hopefully come down around the time or shortly after Nvidia releases their card to challenge this market segment. I'm still going with a 5770 myself due to my budget but for those with a bit more bank it may be an option.

I have the XFX 5770 and it's amazing. I have it OC'd to 900/1350 and I run the fan set at 50-60% and the temps are great. The fan does get a little loud @ 70+ speeds but I don't think that speed is needed. I can run Heaven benchmark with just 1 of these cards with 8 AA, 8 AAF and normal tessalation and get around 20 fps. I know it's not the top of the pack but its a dam good card for ~150$. Stay away from the 4xxx series cards, you'll regret it later on when everything is dx11. Personally I'd get an Asus board as well I've had bad experiences with gigabyte.

Just my 2 cents, this card is the best for the money hands down.

its def powerful enough to run the most current games. I have a 5770 and a 5750 in another computer and they both play everything fine in DX11

I agree that the HD 5770 has more value because of the DirectX 11 capabilities, but how far will they go? By that I mean, how long until DirectX 11 games become mainstream and when they do become mainstream, will the HD 5770 be adequate?
