Radeon 9800 Pro(blems)

Postby hillp78 » Sat Jul 24, 2010 12:12 pm

I have a 128mb Radeon 9800 pro video card and I have a mild addiction to Sid Meier's Civ games. Civilization 4 used to run fine on my system, even just after installing the video card. Now, I can't get a full game in to save my life. Here's what I've tried:

Updated drivers for video card
Installed the Catalyst drivers for the same update as video card
Enlisted extra cooling on video card
Checked for patches for Civ 4
Double-checked settings on Catalyst Control Center to make sure graphics settings were defined by program

Here's what I get:

Message from Catalyst saying that my graphics accelerator is not responding to the graphics card drivers
(after un-installing Catalyst) Computer locked up completely while playing!

I don't get what's going on at this point and need help really badly!! Please and Thank you!!

In my opinion, it sounds like the video card wants to kick the bucket. You've done everything I would have suggested other than trying another video card, which at this point would be the best thing to do. If the other card works then yea the 9800 is probably kaput.

Yeah that would be my guess too. Probably have to spend $80 and get a new card.

I might have a 9800 pro laying around. Let me test it and it's yours for the cost of shipping.
