X4 840 Propus 3.2...I know its not unlocked like the 955 BE but other than that at 3.2 for both are they not basically the same?? If I am not a OCer per say would the 840 propus be a good choice for me?

If you find my questions tiresome then don't read my posts. Otherwise let me learn what I can by asking questions on a hardware review forum page. I get to upgrade my computer about once every two years so I know very little about what is available. If I could I would just buy an Intel i7 940 extreme and I know I would be in good shape. I just want to get the most for my money. That means I need to save where I can to add to other parts. Lots of people told me to buy the 965 BE for $ 159, then I read on another thread that the 955 actually is better and it costs less. So it seems to me I need to ask about each one to learn about them.

There is actually a very significant difference between the 840 and the 955. The 955 has a L3 Cache of 6Mb while the 840 doesn't have any L3 Cache. You can find a comparison of all the Phenom II chips here. Hopefully this helps you
