MS Security Essentials?

Postby camaroguy1998 » Mon Apr 04, 2011 12:10 am

Has or is anyone using MS Security Essentials?
Win7 updates offered it, so I thought I'd give it a try!
Is that a mistake?

I've been using it since the end of 2009 and never had a problem with Windows7 since then.

I've been using it on my daughter's netbook and one of my spare's for a while now. It's good but slow scans.

Love it...doesn't use many resources, has integrated updates with Windows and many have rated it among the top in virus/malware protection.

Runs fast on my machine although I'm using an SSD :)

The only thing I don't like about it is the software slows down copy and pastes. Other than that it's a pretty good piece of software.

Let's say I download the latest build of AIDA64. I extract the files there are roughly 50 files in the folder. When I go to copy and paste to overwrite the old files it takes about 30 seconds. When I don't have MSSE running and do the same it takes less than 5 seconds. I am assuming it is just scanning every file I am essentially writing to the drive.

Give this a shot and see if you can replicate my "feeling" results.

What OS are you running? I can't replicate this on Windows 7, both on my fresh install on my BootCamped Mac Pro, and a Virtual Copy that I have used for months.

I was running it on Windows 7 x64 for a bit. The copy/paste issue bugged me enough to uninstall it. Now I'm just running Malwarebyte's to serve my security duties.

I have to agree with Major on this on, I do a lot of copy pasting and it does get in the way at times. I do like how fast it is, but I wish I could turn off the monitoring crap so i can use just the basic functions, so i scan what I want when i want and how I want.

I have turned off everything dealing with auto crap, but it still hangs in my task bar telling me my computer is not protected..........
