My new config (in the making)

Considering building this. Let me know if there are compatibility/configuration errors.

- I'm worried about the two VeloDrives on the PCI Express lanes next to the two 6990's. I wonder if it'll work out fine.
- Also, the Dells won't tilt vertically. However, NEC's 30 inch offering will. Thing is I own a DELL, and have never worked on an NEC. How do the two compare?

Are you being serious? Do you do professional (aka Hollywood) CGI? I have no idea why you would need a $30k computer. If you feel like more the merrier then pick up the EVGA Classified SR-2 and a couple Intel Xeon X5690 processors.

With the shear amount of storage you have going on there you really need a controller card. No point in paying all that money to have the onboard ICH10R controller do the work.

As far as I know the SR-2 has a ton of PCIe lanes, far more than the Z68.

For that kind of system the best route is to wait for the 2011 socket based CPUs, or go on a Core i7 970 1366 series. I know for sure the 1366 socket based cpu's do not have the limitation of the 1155, from what I am reading the 2011 are going to be the same way. Yep looking at your build again the 1366 or the upcoming 2011 be perfect. and holy crap that is one big ass machine, what you going to feed that thing? Clearly xbox's, PS3, Wii will not be enough.

I think this whole post is a BS. Nobody is buying a 26K+ Computer, especialy, when they haven't got the money. Just checked the guy's posts and found this: http://forums.legitreviews.com/about34484.html#p192910 - if he had that kind of cash, he wouldn't be buying a budget laptop (about $400 on amazon)

Your vitriolic approach aside, do you believe that people's finances do not improve? Ever? Can a person not land a well paying job? or serendipitous-ly land on some good money? In my case, none applies though. My job still sucks in terms of pay, and I didn't win the lottery either. I had some long term investments yield recently, that's all.

If you feel this is BS (like I have nothing better to do than waste my time writing imaginary fluff on legit, to earn credibility and the respect of people who I don't know, and won't probably ever meet), then that's my bad luck. But here's what you can do: don't participate.

I'm looking for advice to do a costly affair right, not judgements on my financial capability.

ok, If thats right, than my bad but Apop asked for some pics and there are none, so I assumed thats because there is nothing to post. It still looks weird to have a computer put together for that kind of money I never saw such a thing since I was interested in PC's (14y.) and what I also find weird is the setup. The CPU and the MOBO are pretty much the cheapest parts of it and why not wait till the new socket 2011 and compatible high end motherboards come out? Why use a sandybridge platform (which is a budget platform however good it is). The new High end 2011 socket platform will have 4 channels of RAM ex. (basicaly twice the bandwith of sandy). So anyway, if what you are doing is true, than I suck back what I've said but we do need pics. No pics - no proof

I don't see any issues for asking questions on a computer build, no matter what the price. Getting back to your questions. I do think waiting till the lga 2011 board comes out to build your next rig, that's what I am going to do. As far as that much storage, I don't know why you will need all of it at one time. I would think you always can add storage as needed. I'm sure the prices might even come down a bit as you need more storage or something faster may always be in the works. I don't know anything about hdd controllers but it sounds like a good idea. Let us know how your build is going. What software do you plan on installing? One more thing, do you really need a case that costs that much?

Edit: After thinking about how much you could spend on this rig, I have thought very hard about this. I feel that no matter what savings you might save by building it yourself, it would be easier and safer to have a custom shop build the rig for you. For one thing you will have a warranty and it would be easier to insure. For the price you are talking about, that is a must!
