A Benchmark For Just SSDs - AS SSD Benchmark

Dont worry. It is not a SSD failure. That is an alignment display. It shows only that your partition is nor correctly aligned. Please google for alignment on SSDs.

Simpliest way to realign the partition ist to delete it and create a new one. If you use Win7 for it, it will create correctly aligned partitions. If you use some hdd copy tools or XP ,it can mess up the alignment.

sequential write looks great in RAID... Shocked to see the 4K writes go down in RAID though... wonder what is up with that.

Here's the first run. The drive was set to IDE in BIOS b/c I was getting the error msg....

drive in IDE to start...before enabling AHCI

Hi, I am using windows 7 64bit. I just setup windows on a 16gb KingSpec KSD-SA25.11-016MJ SSD drive.
But I don't see any major speed upgrade to my computer. Also I can't do the benchmarking completely.....
It hangs midways here is screenshot. I purchased this SSD from a chinese seller in . Have I been cheated? Is it a fake device or something I am missing.
Any help is greatly appreciated....

hello everybody
this week i purchased a Corsair Force F60 SSD
got AHCI mode running in XP, i was using 7 but my dvdr for win7 died this week LOL!

well i ran the as ssd benchmark and i would um appreciate if the community here could help me come to a better understanding of what one should *expect to see* in regards to read and write speeds.

seeing 10mb/s seems rather awful i sorta expected 100s and 200s here, perhaps i dont understand sequential vs 4k writes or something
OH AND I SEE 31K BAD near the top right of the window. nobody else here with posted pics have BAD written there so im now rather worried.
this drive was bought refurbished, but ive encountered no anomlaies so what does that mean.

ill add more specs if necessary.

Sequential speeds look OK for this drive, it is a bit slow there compared to competition. But 4K write speed should be significantly better. I suppose you bought it used?

sigh, this sorta makes me sad
also i just realized that my ssd cant use TRIM because XP doesnt support that apparently.
so maybe these numbers are XP's fault or its both XP and the used drive itself thats giving low #s.

is there any other possible reason? i got a sata 2 mobo and XP Pro is currently running.

hddtune reports all green in terms of the numerical smart stats...

i outta look at the actually specs of the drive and see how much damaged it is, perhaps i should reconsider an exchange? or would people agree that the drive is at least in decent enough condition..??

plus what is the BAD 31K in the corner there??
i will say windows xp boots in 10 secs flat!
and then i am in complete control and theres no lag during login. quite amazing even if shes a bit damaged.


um also, i still dont have a clear understanding of the 4k, sequential etc etc? which ones mean which and which ones should i be focused on or worried about? im really using it as a gaming rig and boot times and game level load times app laod times, these were all factors i considered for upgrading to ssd tech.

also should i upgrade firmware?
i know lots of questions in one post!

i realized this f60 wasnt high end either but i figured they are one of the few that Supossedly maintain common speeds even on
the lower capacity models, whereas other higher end ssds tend to suck ass for speeds when u go to the 40-80 gig range. the controllers are often 44% slower if u dont get a 120gb as the minimum entry...

Did you secure erase it when you got it? It may have been in a dirty state and running benchmarks is only going to make it worse without having TRIM to clean things up later. I wouldn't worry so much about the #'s...you are still way ahead of an HDD.

oh crap i didnt it was empty... didnt even know about secure erasing on ssds till today. i was gonna format her originally.

read you should also never defrag or format a ssd as well. i havent defragged it so thats good.

perhaps when i get win7 back up i should secure erase 1 pass i guess with zero fill? i see hddtune has a built in function for just this purpose.
tho i do wonder how much that will change the numbers. but u say dont worry so much about em...

if anyone else has more input thatd be great. still some things mysterious to me.

Before you load Win 7...secure erase the drive using this method. Reboot into an OS with the SSD as a secondary drive so you can initialize it, then install windows 7 and all will be good. Make sure no Windows OS drive is connected when installing from the Windows CD or it will assume you want to dual boot and long story short, it makes a mess of things.

If you installed XP on the SSD or imaged it over from an XP image from hard drive, the drive is probably not aligned properly as XP does not align optimally for SSDs but Win 7 does. That may be what's lowering your scores and I'm pretty sure what that bad 31k message is all about.

Hi,

First, I'd like to thank the author for the program. Very nice!.

I ran the benchmarks on my brand new Samsung SSD which I am using as storage (no O/S installed on the drive). The system is running XP Pro 64Bit. I am puzzled by the 4K Read performance being significantly lower than the Write one. Also, there is this line at the top that reads "pciide - BAD" which I'm not sure what it really means. Everything in my system seems to be working fine (including all the hard drives - which I guess would be affected by a "bad pciide"). Here is the screenshot of the results I got.

The Samsung specs state that I should get about 20K to 30K IOPS at 4KB. The results I got are quite far from that. Any ideas as to why ?

You are running XP which does not align the drive properly by default which may be why you have that error code on the display (i'm not quite sure what it means) and your #'s are not as good as they could be. Google XP SSD drive alignment for more info.
That error may also mean it is detecting an issue with your SATA port. Try a different port and/or SATA data cable. Make sure all of your mobo drivers are up to date as well.

Thanks for the reply. I was aware of the XP drive alignment problem and used Diskpar to ensure the partition is aligned. That's what AS SSD shows as "64K -OK".

The "pciide - BAD" on the other hand has me stomped. I have no idea what to make of that.

Lastly, on SSDs (and even hard drives), reads are usually faster than writes. My SSD seems to be the opposite, which I find "suspicious" and I was hoping someone could shed some light on this.

Mine was showing msahci but then up updated the drivers that came with the mother board and how it shows amd_sata Ok. Am i in ahci mode or not. Bios is set and all that. If i am not in ahci mode should i just uninstall all the drivers and just let it use Microsoft drivers? Under the mobo disk it was under Raid > AMD > AHCI or should i be looking for ahci drivers for the hard drive and not the mobo? Never had a problem with this before, but i just got a new mobo and as stated before all was working saying msahci which is Microsoft's drivers from what i read. What should i do differently if the amd_sata ok isn't in ahci mode? Thanks all in advance!

Edit: I rolled back my driver and back to msahci but my read write isn't much better than the amd_sata. 8 core, 32 gigs of ram, ssd, 7850 video, 1300 watt psu
