hmm, you could try and see if the WD tools will be able to detect it so you can perform a low level format on it.

Also try the basics, use a different sata cable, power cable, sata port.
Check if it's detected in the BIOS. If not, then it could be dead
Can you hear or feel the drive motor or platters spinning? Does it get warm?
If you can see it in the BIOS and WD Tools doesn't help, try "Ultimate Boot CD" and boot from this.
In the menu select "MHDD" and run this.
You can then run a low level test for bad bits / sectors & mark them bad.
The beauty of MHDD is that it will also test the access time and if it's very high, it will mark it bad.
Windows and other tools only check if the bits can be read, but if the OS thinks it takes to long to read it internally marks it as bad. You may loose some data doing this, but it will restore the drive back to "as new".
If the drive platters are seriously damaged it may still run, but you could be left with a much small hdd in the end.

If it's not detected by MHDD, try again but before you start MHDD the second time; on the menu press TAB first and type "raw" and press enter.

sounds like something major is going on.

Might want to check the power supply and make sure it's not going on and causing voltage spikes that is destroying hardware. Also what is the primary drive? Does software like Crystal Disk Info show it being healthy?

Had a group of five 1.5TB Cav Green's crap out on me while back. Started to flake out in one way or another, most were bad sectors. Sent them all back to WD on RMA.

I would stop using the drive, and start going over the rest of the system with a fine tooth comb on the off chance there is another issue. Lost a whole rig to a power supply crapping out.
