question on overclocking

howdy..i just got a new motherboard for my old intel cpu..it ran around 115-120 degrees F in the old mobo..now it runs more around 90-95 degrees..the new board lets me overclock to hearts content..in fact i got my 2.4 ghz northwood to run at 3.11 ghz stable. it it didnt break a sweat at 105 dgrees..its aldo worth mentioning that my cpu only does a 533 fsb while the mobo can handle 800..now i left my cpu clocked at 3.1 ghz all day the other day and the temps didnt go higher than 110 and was still solid stable..would i be able to leave it overclocked for longer periods WITHOUT ruining anything or should i leave it alone? lol..oh yea the new mobo is the ASUS P4P-800 E

That board is a screamer!!!!

I suggest you run Prime95 to stress the CPU
8hrs @ least and 12hrs if you can (depends on how stable you want)

prime95 will calculate prime numbers to stress the cpu...if there is a prob, prime will quit with an error......then your pc will go back to running Idle

That board is known for reading temps wrong.....by upto 10C with earlier bios versions
Update to the latest bios so your temp readings will be more accurate...

I have the same mobo.....you can't go wrong with it!
i work in C not F.........so try and keep your CPU under 50C as your using a "northwood" P4 --> they don't like high temps like the prescott versions......

yeah thats a very good overclocking board like Ken said keep it below at MOST 60c or 140f that is the upper limit of what i would concider safe for long term use i would keep it 50c or under.

my old mobo was an Intel D845PEBT2...wasnt the greatest board, but it sure beat the ECS board i got on a cpu/mobo deal from Fry's nearly 4 years ago lol

interesting read..now that i know a lil more..ill be only turnin the notch up for a game until i have another cpu to fall on in case i mess up lol
