Help with RAM dividers on E6850!!!!!

Hello, i just built my new rig and im just about to boot it up. Specs are:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6850
RAM: 2 x 1GB Cellshock PC-6400 with Micron D9GMH chips (4-4-4-12)
Mobo: Asus P5K-E Deluxe WiFi/AP
VGA: XFX GeForce 8800GTS 320MB
HDD: WD Raptor 36GB , WD Caviar 16SE 250GB , WD Caviar 16SE 300GB
Cpu Cooler: Zalman 9700LED
PSU: Zalman ZM600-HP (600watt)

My question is: How should i run CPU and memory configuration?
a) CPU: 9 x 333 (stock) + RAM: 400 (with some divider)
b) CPU: 8 x 400 + RAM: 400 (1:1) (I really dont want to overclock cpu. At least not for now, mb in the future)
c) CPU: 9 x 333 (stock) + RAM: 333 (underclocked) (1:1)

I really need help on this guys as i dont know how much this influences overall performance.

If you are happy that your board does 400Mhz stable, then you will see the most benefit with having your RAM at 1:1 with your FSB.

You may have to give your nothbridge/MCH more voltage if it doesn't make it to 400Mhz on the first attempt. The best way of checking is to run memtest86+ and choose in the advanced options to loop test 5 to make sure your NB can handle the speed.


But for now, with it being a fresh build, run it at CPU: 9 x 333 (stock) + RAM: 400 (with some divider) so you can make sure that there aren't any problems first. Once its all settled in, then feel free to tweak it.

Well after looking around in different forums, I' m pretty sure my motherboard can handle 400mhz fsb without raising any voltages. Though, as you recommended me, I will start the system with default stable settings , and then i ll consider slightly overclocking to 3.2Ghz (8 x 400 with ram 1:1 at 400mhz). I believe Zalman 9700 cooler will be able to handle that small overclocking . Thanks, i ll start working on it soon and i ll post results.
