The MacBook Air

Postby dgood » Tue Jan 15, 2008 2:20 pm

I am wondering if people think it is as useless as I think it to be.
yeah anyone can make something slim. If you remove the Optical drives, the ethernet, the usb ports and make it so the batteries and possibly all the other parts are sealed so you cannot change them out. I'm not seeing how this thing can justify asking for a price of 1800 dollars with all these features lacking. Obviously they removed the optical drive as a means to help draw users to the new movie store on itunes. that way they discourage people from buying the movies and such on DVD or HD formats so that they can stake a claim in that sector. I just don't see this thing being that great, since It'll probably break too easily and is lacking so much in those areas. Also I belive the hd is 4200rpm. seriously if that is the case, are they just trying to get rid of old drives?

You can upgrade to a 64GB SSD for only $999!!!

I'd be worried I'd snap it in half all of the time.

It's expensive, as making tech tiny costs more, but for the average user, that actually wants to do anything its a rubbish laptop.

I feel dirty going to the mac website to see the thing.

Sounds to me like it is the thickest piece of paper, because of its limitations.

This thing can't really be the worlds thinnest laptop as Jobs claims, can it?

EDIT: Well, i found a better one, that was announced back in april, the intel metro, looks sweet.

yeah, the no ethernet is bad, but there is an external Optical drive....... that takes up the single USB port that you HAD!!! i think you have to buy it too, but my friend says that you can wirelessly use another computers optical drive over wifi/bluetooth, i think he may be wrong, not sure, though.

Another useless Apple product hits the market!

The only way they will sell these things is through marketing claims and loyal Apple owners. The unit LACKS a great deal for such a high price tag. For that price, a nicely made laptop with plenty of upgraded options can be had.

But guuuys, it's so cool and hip and trendy and will go great with my $1800 shoes! j/k

That is what Mac is becoming, they've always been hip and trendy, but now they're the equivalent of the Gucci brand for technology...completely useless but OH SO SHINY. All those things do is make you spend all you money on the newest thing and make your butt look good... :)

They are cool looking and I wouldn't turn one down if it was given to me (hey I can surf the net in style, YAY!) but I'd never drop a dime on one. Or my two cents. Which you all just got.

If they were selling for a dime, I would buy one. Two actually, so I could smash one and keep the other.
