Re: i7-2720QM runs hot?

I think that things are now fine, temps in the 60'sC. That is in line with all of my other machines. I just had to get rid of the GPU crunching.

Re: i7-2720QM runs hot?

Yup. Well, all's well that ends well. I really would like to be able to crunch with GPU, the run up of credits is unbelievable. So, maybe on my next desktop I will buy with parts in mind to allow it. But, hey, I am in the 99th percentile of all BOINC crunchers in the history of BOINC, and that was m...

Re: i7-2720QM runs hot?

Yes, that's Sandybridge. But, the computer has nVidia GeForce GT555M. That shows up separately in Device Manager|Display adapters, and that is what the BOINC project was using.

Re: i7-2720QM runs hot?

I think I pretty much found the culprit. Some of the projects running on BOINC software on my computers will use the graphics processing. They are demanding in what they will use, and up until now, I did not in any of my other machines have suitable graphics processing. So, one project jumped on the...

Re: i7-2720QM runs hot?

Hi-

The load does not matter. The machine was just "crunching' most of the week-end, temps maybe 65-85C. Now, at work, doing real work and crunching, the temps are the same, maybe 66-85C.

Re: i7-2720QM runs hot?

Thanks, no everything is running fine. The computer is new, this is something I always check. My laptops run 24/7 on BOINC projects, so, you know, heat is a dirty word.
I appreciate your comments.

i7-2720QM runs hot?

On my i7-2720QM, I am seeing temps for the four at around 78-80C.

I have two other i7's and an i5, I do not see temps this high.

This is not a gaming machine. It is used for normal work and home applications plus "crunching" data for projects running on BOINC software.
