I got the eVGA 8800 gts a few weeks ago and I like it alot. I had a eVGA 6800. I play BF2142 on highest settings and I get per Fraps a minimum of 56+fps at all times playing. In my Full Armor I can not heard it over the two 120mm fans with the case. You should have two spare power connectors for it....

Nice price! and $109 sounds very good also. The only thing that makes it a "mid level gamer" is the not having a Nvidia 8800 GTX but the 7900GS is a great card. Let's face it any thing over what you got for gaming with today's games is pissing your mommy's money away. Very nice set-up.

Not a gamer? That was my reaction also. My only tweek ;) would be... you should have got the 7900GS and saved a little money. Newegg has got one for $159US less $15 rebate... a steal. I have got my harddrives in raid 1 so that I won't loss my MP3's, digital photos and my web site stuff if I get a fa...

I would suggest you not go with those. The first place to start is to give us a budget. And see what we can come up with.

PCi Express is the way to go. I am a BF2 series player and you need 2 Gb of RAM also for the game to play well. But if you can't swing that cost 1Gb will do...even 1.5Gb.

You might need Vista when DirectX 10 games are released, since there will be no DX10 for XP (I think). If you want to play DX10 games, of course... Every article from developers I read about DX10 games states that they will be back compatible with 9. That may change in five years but no game develo...

If you do MP gaming ...wait...if you just do MS Office go for it. DX10 is the anti-OpenGL so you would expect them is not care about it at first. If enough of us wait for them to get it all right...it should be a good up-grade in 2008.
