Re: ADATA XPG SX8200 M.2 SSD Review

Active State Power Management (ASPM) is a little strange as no one talks much about it. No drive company has ever briefed the press on it and only a handful of storage sites even test it on/off. Every controller has different power states that can be used by ASPM and ASPT (Autonomous Power State Tra...

Toshiba OCZ RC100 SSD Review

We first learned about the Toshiba RC100 Series SSD at CES 2018 and were intrigued by the by what Toshiba was showing off. The RC100 series are all M.2 PCIe Gen 3x2 NVMe drives that use the tiny 2242 form factor rather than the much more common 2280 form factor. Toshiba was able to release this driv...

Re: Vantec SATA/IDE to USB 3.0 Adapter Review

This product finally died. Was using it on a desktop and suddenly was having stability issues in Windows and then finally after about a week of switching out RAM and removing the overclock the system wouldn't post. It was an ASUS board and I was getting Q-Code b4, which means USB Hot Plug. Removed t...

Re: AMD Ryzen 7 2700 8-Core 65W Processor Review

It's just the architecture differences between Intel and AMD. IPC has been better on Intel for years and continues to be better despite AMD getting over 40% IPC improvements with Zen. That is why before Zen no enthusiast was touching AMD.

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 8-Core 65W Processor Review

Last month we published reviews on the Ryzen 7 2700X and Ryzen 5 2600X processors and found AMD's second-generation Zen models to be off to a great start. Both the models we looked at last month support AMD's XFR 2 technology though and we weren't able to look at the non-XFR (eXtended Frequency Rang...

Re: SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable SSD Review

Yeah, i'm not sure why an SSD can't go as low as a Flash memory card. It wouldn' t be the NAND Flash, but likely maybe the controller or DRAM cache chip?

SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable SSD Review

Most of our readers wouldn’t buy or build a new computer today without an SSD inside. SSDs have come a long way over the past decade and once you’d had one you don’t want to go back to rotational media. Portable SSDs are also streaming ahead in the external storage drive market by bringing the break...

Re: Corsair Carbide Spec-Omega Mid-Tower Case Review

Anydvd does have a feature to eliminate the Cinavia watermark when used with CloneBD! correct, but the the audio is downgraded to AC3, not the original audio signal. It ads a little distortion, but not bad. I'd rather leave it though and just use players and TV's that don't support it ;) The Samsun...

Patriot EVLVR 1TB Thunderbolt 3 Portable SSD Review

The first Patriot EVLVR Thunderbolt 3 portable SSD prototype was first revealed at CES 2018 and got some buzz as it is one of only a handful of external SSD solutions aimed at mainstream users that uses the Thunderbolt 3 interface. Thanks to the Thunderbolt 3 interface and internal M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD...

Re: Corsair Carbide Spec-Omega Mid-Tower Case Review

I could see how you would come to the conclusion that I rip discs, but I do not! The hint would be the BD Burners(x2)! With that said, it has been crossing my mind to get away from my old school ways and setup some sort of a NAS/Server. The stacks are starting to get out of hand! Oh my goodness... ...

Re: Intel Optane Memory Tested With Secondary Hard Drive

Again pricing is just so weird as you can buy a regular SSD for cheaper than you can the 64GB module. I could see the 16gb and MAYBE the 32GB ()even though you can get a lower end/lower capacity SSD for around the same price on sale) but after that it seems almost foolish. Ok had a thought.....mayb...

Intel Optane Memory Tested With Secondary Hard Drive

Intel Optane Memory has been around for more than a year, but when it was launched in Q1 2017 it could only be used to accelerate one Windows 10 SATA boot drive and only one module is supported per system. Many in the PC community wanted to accelerate hard disk drives that weren’t the boot drive and...

Re: DDR4 Memory Scaling Performance with Ryzen 7 2700X

How much of a real-world improvement be for higher clock memory? When would a user notice the different? I just purchased 2400 memory, curious if I should return it and buy 3000+. How much is the price difference? If you are building a new Ryzen system and plan on sticking with it for a number of y...
