Re: keyboard cleaning

I would say if it's an ancient keyboard try the dishwasher, if it is a new one do the tedious cleaning and from then on make sure your hands are clean first and don't eat over it! I owned a laptop for four years that I always used with clean hands, never needed cleaning once!!

Gotta Love Arctic

Arctic Silver is the God of thermal pastes. I opened up my X1950 Pro to find a glob of gelatinous (I've always wanted to use that word) gray mess that half-filled the GPU cavity. I used Windex (no alkie around and no probs) to swab the inside and applied AS Ceramique. Before I was gaming in FEAR and...

Re: core 2 or quad core?

Seems like the Q6600 is pretty popular these days... grab a nice cooler (think 120mm cooling fan on it like Tt or Scythe) and overclock it till your temps are below-volatile but higher-than-normal. You will be pleased for a couple years....

Re: Which CPU?

I would say try the E6750 with a BIOS update. The board you use IS the one in your sig right? If you run an OC around 3.5 gigs you should be fine for about 2 years. The quad core IS only a hundred bucks more though with only slightly less OC potential... I would say flip a coin and go with what ole ...

Well I'm assuming USB 3.0 will be backward compatible (haven't read ANYTHING on the subject, just an assumption) just like USB 2.0. Otherwise like you said will upset a large group of 2.0 users...

Re: Soldering

You're using flux right? Makes solder "stickier." You could also try a wire wrap and solder that.

Re: not sure what the issue is

I would just try clearing the CMOS, if it doesn't work, dig a nice grave to bury your computer in. Also if you have enough, try booting up with one memory stick at a time out. Could be a hard drive issue but no idea there. Last time I fried a hard drive it would stop at the Dell page on my lappy. Tr...

Re: Picking the perfect graphics card+lcd?

If I were you I would go with a ws monitor, judging by the games you mentioned. Think about this: you are seeing a lot more pixels added to the left and right of the "middle" which would be all you see in the case of a normal aspect screen. Try a 20" Acer : http://www.newegg.com/Produ...

Re: Possible cpu problem

I used AS Ceramique for my CPU, and as far as I've heard its ultra sticky compared to AS5, but the easiest way to apply it for me was to grab a sandwich bag and stretch it out over my finger, then put about a rice-grain sized amount on the CPU, then I smoothed it out with the stretched part of the b...

Re: 8800GT or wait?

I would buy one, as a matter of fact I intend to buy one here in the next couple months. Judging by the disappointment that was the Radeon X2XXX line, I would jump on this opportunity, and quick. Out of the 20 or so reviews available on newegg, about a quarter of them had MASSIVE overclocks going on...

Alright thanks for the info. I'll do that tonight when I get home after my 2.5 hour CLASS! (Classes 11:30 AM to 9 PM on Wednesdays, too much time away from my baby).

Re: The long wait is OVER!!

There were two four-pin connections, with a black plastic cover over one of them, I'm afraid if I plug in the other half it will fry...I'll post a pic of that, too....

Re: The long wait is OVER!!

I built her yesterday! I used AS Ceramique instead of 5 because I heard it does a tad better job. It was really gooey but people said that using a piece of plastic (in my case sandwich bag) would work to smooth it out. I lapped the bejeesus out of my Big Typhoon VX as well. Should have taken picture...

Yes many say that Half Life is the best game of all time. But I believe the answer is Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Massive world, engrossing story, and all-around awesomeness.

The long wait is OVER!!

I bought my final parts from newegg yesterday to complete the computer of my dreams, this is what I ended up with: *E6750 *Tt Big Typhoon VX *ASUS P5N32-Plus *2gb Crucial Ballistix ($65 after rebate) *Seagate 250gb HD *Lite-On drive that does everything but wipe its own @$$ *x1950pro 256mb (probably...
