Spec Review/RAM-Mobo compatible?

I got asked by my school to build a highend audio-visual workstation (editing, Premiere Pro, etc.) for them... here's what I worked out... I avoided the Quadro CX because the benefits of the Quadro CX in rendering were evened out by the two quad cores.... the only thing I'm worried about are the Mob...

Re: New future buil- TOPIC CHANGE! Tablet vs Laptop (see pg 2)

So chances are if I get a laptop, by college it'll be:
Outdated
Slow
May not fit requirements of major?

Re: New future buil- TOPIC CHANGE! Tablet vs Laptop (see pg 2)

XP That's not exactly discreet carry to school either. Well the two arguments I've been getting are Pro-Desktop/Anti-Laptop: Laptop will be completely obsolete in two years, and I'll near 100% have to get another at the end of high school/before college. High school's easy without laptop Computers a...

Re: New future buil- TOPIC CHANGE! Tablet vs Laptop (see pg 2)

Well, I can't carry a desktop around. . .

This is sssseeevreeeeely pissing me off because I'd kill to see Crysis running maxed out, yet the sound of a mobile workstation sounds so enticing.

Re: New future build, comments, OCable quadcore, many questions.

Well my parents think all I'm gonna do with a desktop is play games - which is pretty much true, that'd be the main purpose of a OCed quadcore and dual graphics processors, no?

At least the laptops have academic focus.

Re: New future build, comments, OCable quadcore, many questions.

XD Sorry man, I'm just really really pissed because my family's piss pooooorr and I'm lucky even getting one of these and getting two is akin to a wild sexual fantasy involving Jessica Alba. I was thinking... By the time I go to college (I'm a rising junior), there'll probably be multi-touch tablets...

XP Now I'm split between a laptop/tablet and a desktop, because so many of my friends say a laptop is handy for school.

Re: New future build, comments, OCable quadcore, many questions.

Well, if a set of DDR2-1000s give a certain voltage and timing in their specs, doesnt that mean I can run them at full 500 FSB at those given settings?

Anyone have any thoughts on the Asus Rampage Formula or the Maximus II formula?

Re: New future build, comments, OCable quadcore, many questions.

Should I just get DDR2-1000 RAM rather than DDR2-1066 and save some money if I probably won't push past 500 and DDR2-1000s are guaranteed till 500?

Re: New future build, comments, OCable quadcore, many questions.

Mucho thanks again man... (and much more in advance) I'm probably gonna be asking lots of questions till I get the rig so ... :D It seems that the Antec Nine Hundred has its drive bays pretty much built in, and the fan bracket inside further lessens space, so D: - P180 for me I suppose? The P182 is ...

Re: New future build, comments, OCable quadcore, many questions.

I'd really like a quad core, as when apps/games that do fully use Quad Core come out, it'd probably be less gimping to have an old quad core than an old dual core. Well the Nine Hundred is smaller than the P180 lengthwise by 0.5" according to Newegg, so I suppose a 10.5" might not fit in t...

Re: New future build, comments, OCable quadcore, many questions.

wtf?

Even my old ATI Xpress 3200 has 16x16 Crossfire?

Well I guess I'm kinda screwed if I go HD 4870 Crossfire because I'm too lazy to wait for the HD 4870 X2?

Re: New future build, comments, OCable quadcore, many questions.

Thanks for the responses! Would the Antec Nine Hundred be a better fit for a 10.5" card? And I have no idea what the 16x4/8x8 means... (8 card Crossfire?)... I'll probably end up getting just one card to begin with, and at max, that's a big IF, add just one more card.... Is there any real signi...

New future buil- TOPIC CHANGE! Tablet vs Laptop (see pg 2)

Hey, So my case /sucks/ (Antec Super Lanboy, too small to fit a GTX280 or an HD 4870 regular), my comp's pretty out of date (dual core Athlon 64 X2, S939), and since I might be getting a cash influx due to a car accident, I might be getting a new, rig, so this is the one I had thought up for after t...

6pin to 8pin converter on GPU

Will a graphics card that has one 6pin power plug and another 8 pin power plug work if my PSUs has two 6pins and I use a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter on it (HD4870X2)? Or will it work fine with just two 6pins? Also, is this a suitable adapter? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812198016

Re: 4850, 4870, or 4850 Crossfire?

heh, looks like I can't get the card until end July... which means I'll probably go for 4870X2, assuming its out by then. . . :D Or if it isn't and assuming prices stay the same, a 4850 Crossfire Or if prices drop, 4870 Crossfire. "AMD will begin shipping reference design boards with 2GB GDDR5 ...
