AMD Dual core and Windows XP

I have windows xp running on an AMD dual core cpu, and it runs like a slug. I have googled and found some ideas and applied them all, but it still runs super slow. Wondering if anyone out there has some other ideas.

I own one of these boards and have been extremely happy with it. I bought if because I had just bought a new vid card and then my old mobo died on me. I didn't want to buck up for a new vid card so I found that board and bought it. Working great.

I have been using AVG for about 3 years now and it works great. Plus I think, the new free version is Vista compatible. I tried avast as well and didnt like how it updated. That was a while back though and it may have changed.

I stopped watching after Next Generation. Just couldn't get into Deep Space or Voyageur. Liked almost all the movies. Definately 2,3,4 and all the ones with the ng cast. I think there's another one coming out that goes back to kirk and spocks academy days. Should be cool.

Splinter Cell: Double Agent

Anyone know if Ubisoft has "dumbed" this game down enough to work on my Radeon 9800 pro? I can't find any such info. On the box it says the cards that are known to be compatible, unfortunately I can't afford any of them right now.

I used it for a few weeks, but at that time the free version of AVG antivirus wasn't compatible so I was leery of running without antivirus. I did some gaming on it (half life 2) seemed to work fine for me. In the end went back to 32 bit.

portable apps

Anyone else ever go to http://www.portableapps.com ? Just discovered this one a week or so ago. All the apps on there are portable, ie not installing, so you can throw them on your data stick and take em with you. There's firefox, thunderbird, open office and whack of others. Check it out.
