HDD controller config
Hey guys. I'm building a fairly high end workstation for a customer. I have a question about the HDD controller config. We want as much speed & efficiency from this system as possible. MOBO = Intel DX58SO CPU = i7 920 12 Gig RAM HDD's = 1 Intel X25M 160Gig & 2 WD 300Gig Velociraptors Optical...

I own 1 and support 3 more ...ibleet wrote:This doesn't surprise me. The BX2 is one of the most problematic boards of all times.
Never had problems out of any of them.

Re: Small network hardware question
I don't know of anything in particular other than usernames/passwords. Just give them the same ones as they've been using and I think you'll be fine. Oh, and when Win 7 detects the network and asks you what the location is, tell it Work. That way you won't have to deal with Homegroup passwords and t...

Re: Which SSD?
Update = After reading some on the Intel SSD forum, I found out that TRIM isn't supported through the Intel Matrix Storage Manager. Even though I'm not running a RAID setup, I was using the IMSM driver to run the drive. This resulted in a Windows Experience Score of 5.9 on the drive. Uninstalled the...

Newegg has it up, but it is listed at $129.99 and no rebate is showing up... WTF On top of that it says "limit 1 per customer" WTF http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139081 Looks like they've jumped the price a bit as well! I got an order confirmation from TD ... the...

Re: Kingston 40GB V Series Boot Drive SSD Review
I think she said they were coming direct from Kingston. I really don't know for sure. As for being on the website ... that really doesn't matter. If it's not on the site, that only means that Tiger doesn't have it in stock. My rep can usually still find whatever I'm looking for and have it drop ship...

Just ordered 3 of 'em.
My Tiger Direct rep found them somewhere or another.
Price was just a few $ over 100 w/o rebate.

Re: Which SSD?
Well ... don't know if I'm $600+ impressed.
I can visibly see some things are indeed faster.
But my Windows score actually went down from where it was before.
I was running 3 64GB Raptors in RAID 0 before.
And QuickBooks is STILL slow to launch! ... what a freaking P.O.S. software that is.

Re: Small network hardware question
How do they know it's the server that's slow? Maybe it's the workstations themselves instead. If they wanna spend $511.00 per workstation, IMO, you should let somebody else do it for them. After the new smell wears off of that $511.00 boat anchor, they're gonna be blaming you for getting them junk. ...

Re: Building a Workstation
Thanks for the info so far guys. Interesting note here: I was in there Saturday watching him work ... In the screenprinting side of things, there is a RIP program that sits "between" the printer drivers & the physical hardware. Too complicated to try to explain, but the jist of it is t...

Re: Building a Workstation
12GB of RAM should be plenty for those applications. Just curious why you are going top of the line on memory and the SSD, but then putting in just a Core i7 920 processor. Also why a workstation board? If you want Super Micro you have pretty much one choice the SUPERMICRO MBD-C7X58-O. This board r...

Ok guys ... I've never had a customer that needed as much machine as this guy does. He's a screen printer / embroiderer. He may have as many as 6 or more apps running at any given time. (Running dual 22" wide screen monitors) One of those apps will be Corel Draw, and he may very well have as ma...

Thanks guys .... I just finished reading the article Apop. Suppose the 160 GB Intel is the way we'll go. There are so many numbers, ratings, choices, sizes .... ect. Damn it gets confusing quickly! I'm ordering 2 of these primarily because I trust you guys. I've been here a while and I don't believe...
