Re: GIGABYTE Unveils AMD Fusion Mini-ITX Motherboard at CES

Cute. Too bad CPU performance is little better than the Atom. I'm tempted to build one but I really need something that's at least Celeron E3200 level. DirectVobSub tends to wreak havoc on DXVA. Looking forward to Llano.

Re: power needed for GTS 450 and GT 240

Thought I should just mention, I'm running a Core i5-750 + GTS 450 (both stock) on a 300W PSU.

Re: Sandy Bridge

I purchased one of the Intel 120gb X25 M SSD's last month and it's up in running in my new system and I'm very happy with it's performance. You won't regret buying one IMO. Lol, actually, I already have a couple of them. Bought from Amazon during Black Friday for $200ea + no tax + free ship. Still ...

Nice. Sandy Bridge exceeded my expectations. Those results are better than AnandTech's Sandy Bridge preview.

Re: Sandy Bridge

Any reason for the Intel ssd over the SF-1200 ones or Crucial's? Stability. The Intel X25-M SSDs are tried and tested. There's a guy on SPCR monitoring Newegg reviews for SSD failure rates (and removing all idiotic reviewers). Iirc, at last count, Intel is at around 2% and SandForce at 15%. Given p...

Sandy Bridge

So it's getting released in a few days. Anyone here planning on building a new rig or upgrading? Tentative parts list: Case/PSU: Silverstone Sugo SG05BB w/450W PSU, $120 MB: LGA-1155 M-ITX (preferrably Gigabyte), $120 CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K, $350 GPU: GTX 460 1GB GDDR5, $200 RAM: Kingston 2x4GB DD...

Re: Processor upgrade help

It doesn't look as if his motherboard supports 45nm processors so Wolfdale is probably out. Best option is a platform upgrade.

Re: New HTPC/General purpose build

The Atom/ION kinda sucks as an HTPC. I built a couple of HTPC's based on it and getting hardware acceleration working (particularly VC-1 under Windows Media Center) can be quite a pain. Needless to say, both have been replaced with more capable machines (Clarkdale-based M-ITX). I think the OP's AM3 ...

Re: WMC Alternative

I'm assuming you're using the Xbox 360 as extender. If so, I don't think you've got other options aside from WMC. That said, I think plug-ins would probably work.

The following is not an alternative to WMC but an add-on:

Re: Opinion's LR!?!

Just a quick comment, I'm not aware of any AMD chipset motherboards that support SLI. With NVIDIA out of the chipset business and AMD being a direct competitor, the chances of getting SLI on new AMD motherboards are pretty small. If you plan on going the SLI-route down the line, I'd rethink you're d...

We're talking about Blu-ray 3D and not just plain Blu-ray support.

Re: World's smallest NVIDIA ION2 based PC -Giada N20

I'm using VLC, thanks for the tip, I will try. Though I'm not very hopeful cause with VLC it is really really slow ! If I remember correctly, DXVA support in VLC is still in its beta stage. Try using Media Player Classic - HomeCinema. In MPC - HomeCinema, go to View >> Options >> Internal Filters >...

Re: World's smallest NVIDIA ION2 based PC -Giada N20

I just bought one, and it can't just play 720p videos ! I could kill someone. So expensive for just a SD video player. I tried many HD videos, and all are played second by second, with a stop every time. Impossible to watch. What player were you using? DXVA is pretty much a requirement for these bu...

Silverstone has a bunch of other cases ideal for SFF HTPC (Lascala). The Sugo series seem more targetted towards mini-powerhouses - single GPU gaming systems with little to no compromise in performance.

Nowadays, you can get 8GB kits for $130 or so. I got some Kingston ValueRAM kits from Amazon when they dropped to $125-ish. A quick search at Newegg came up with the following: CORSAIR XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 Desktop Memory Model CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 , $119.99 G.SKILL Ripjaws Ser...

Certainly more than Atom.
It's better than the Atom but not really significantly better. My minimum requirement is 2.4GHz for Allendale, Wolfdale or Regor and 3.0GHz for Brisbane.
