Re: x264 video encoding benchmark

@knightrid - thanks for the results... what o/s are you running and can you post a cpu-z screenshot in the memory section (timings and mem speed)? Is this a work machine? If not, why not buy yourself a nice P35 or X38 board and enjoy it? The Q6700 should be able to hit 3.3 GHz with little effort and...

Re: x264 video encoding benchmark

First off, thanks to all who contributed data. 24-Feb-2008 - Finally updated the data tables on the x264 benchmark page . They are now html based (not .gif images) which makes my life updating them much easier and I will keep this tables up-to-date daily as people post results. Have a look at the 'D...

Thanks for the post dude. Megadeth rules by the way (their stuff from 1985-1997 anyway).

Re: Howto Guide: Overclocking C2D/C2Q Processors (v1.4)

When you mention the heat was an issue to you when you had your CPU @ 3.3GHz, what temps were they running? The other question I have is can you actually detect a performance increase from say an e6600 to the q6600 if you were to run both side by side @ stock settings? I can't remember exactly... t...

Re: Core2 Duo vs Core 2 Quad

To the op - The jury is still out on quads for games. I have a q6600 I run @ 3.0 GHz and it's plenty fast for games (ut3, crysis, cod4, etc.)... if you plan to use it for any sort of video application, get a quad. See my x264 benchmark; the quads give you a MAJOR speed advantage.

Re: x264 video encoding benchmark

Updated the tables with another 45 nm chip: the QX9650 -- both at stock levels and @ overclocked to 4.2 GHz! With it, and the others (Xeon E5330 (Dual board), Q9550, and Q9350) there is now data on 4 different 45 nm chips. One thing that I found striking about these new chips is that they are only m...

Memory bandwidth tests... differences (PC5300 vs. PC8888)

Common sense tell you that higher memory bandwidth should mean faster results, right? I set out to put this thought to the test looking at just two different memory dividers on my o/c'ed Q6600 system. At a FSB of 333 MHz, the slowest and fastest dividers I could run are: 1:1 a.k.a. PC5300 (667 MHz) ...

Re: P5B-Deluxe and Ballistix PC2-8500 problem

Yeah... 333 is fine... I just don't know if the sticks are bad or if it's my board. I'm on my way to buy some rip off pc8500 from a local shop to see if the board can run 'em... these sticks could be bad... I've never had memory work at lower speeds and NOT at higher speeds....

P5B-Deluxe and Ballistix PC2-8500 problem

I just bought a pair of BL2KIT12864AA1065 and they will work in any mode except the fastest two. These work fine: 1:1 (533 MHz), 4:5 (667 MHz), and 2:3 (800 MHz). If I boot them in in 3:5 (889 MHz) or 1:2 (1,066 MHz) windows will not start. If I boot into Memtest86+ V1.70 , they give TONS of errors ...

Re: Q6600 owners... what is your VID?

Okay all, this will be the final update; please don't post new VID data. I'm not totally sure the integrity of the data collected is that high. What I mean by that is I have read several reports of different reported VIDs for the same chip on different boards. I have also read about the VID changing...

Re: x264 video encoding benchmark

As of 20-Sep-2007, we have data on over 100 Intel-based systems and on over 40 AMD-based systems. There are a few trends I picked-up on while browsing through the database. I put them into a single table and color coded them to make them easier to see. If you see a trend I missed, lemme know and I'l...

Re: x264 video encoding benchmark

@ibleet - Thanks for running the benchmark... I need a few more things.... 1) mem timings and mem core speed you're running it 2) which o/s 3) cpu multiplier and FSB 1) 5-5-5-18, 2612 MHz 2) windows pro MCE 3) x13, 200.9 I have not done any overclocking whatsoever, so its all stock as per my SIG.
