Re: Got hit by lightening. Time to rebuild.
Looks like after I added up all the parts from my old rig it clocked in at $2220 MSRP. So using that budget I've come up with this: Case Corsair Carbide Air 540 $129.99 PSU EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G1 $159.99 CPU Cooler Corsair Hydro Series D100i Watercooler $99.99 SSD Samsung 840 EVO 1TB SSD $459.99 CPU...

Re: Got hit by lightening. Time to rebuild.
I had everything in the house either on a TrippLite ISO bar surge protector or a CyberPower CP1350AVRLCD UPS including this desktop PC. I lost all my Uverse gear, a 24 port Netgear ProSafe managed switch, a Netgear R6300 router, a garage door opener, a TV, a AVR, a WD TV Live, and a BluRay player. I...

Got hit by lightening. Time to rebuild.
So my PC got killed by lightening. The insurance company is giving me about $2500 to rebuild the machine. I'm wanting to again use water cooling but I'm leaning more towards a closed loop system for noise levels and ease of maintenance. I'm still in the designing phase and have been "out of the...

Re: Network issue-God help me
Lets take a step back. Are the devices on your home network using DHCP or have you specified static IP addresses for them? Can you ping to and from each device on your network?

Re: Which GTX 670 should I get?
I missed out on the sale you posted Nate, but I did snag a eVGA GTX 670 FTW for $409 + $10MIRB. Ordered it yesterday. Thanks again for the advice!

Re: Which GTX 670 should I get?
Thanks for responding Nate! I love my current eVGA card and they were pretty high on my list. Honestly, the Borderlands thing is a non issue for me as I doubt I'd ever play it. Heck, I have the first one still in shrink wrap. I would have no problems buying it again. But at the price point it's hard...

Which GTX 670 should I get?
After doing some pretty extensive research I've decided I'm going to replace my 570 with a 670. That brings me to asking which card in specific I should get. I know there are a ton of pre-OC'd cards on the market that demand a premium price but I'm wondering if any of them are really worth it. I've ...

Re: 2560x1440? How much GPU horsepower?
Nevermind you didn't get the idea behind my post. I am currently running a 3 24" 5760 x 1080 resolution desktop and trust me I do know quite a bit about resolutions and how it impacts performance of our gpu's. Then I must have misunderstood what you're trying to say. Please explain it as I'm g...

Re: 2560x1440? How much GPU horsepower?
That's an acedemically correct but misleading statement. As you scale the picture up the resolution increases as does GPU demands. While maintaining the aspect ratio will keep the picture from stretching or skewing LCD monitors only have one native resolution. Running the display below this resoluti...

Re: 2560x1440? How much GPU horsepower?
True. I'm just wanting to make sure I can actually use the monitor once I get it. I'm going to wait for it to go on sale either way as $800 isn't cheap for a monitor.

2560x1440? How much GPU horsepower?
So I'm looking to get a new monitor and thing I'm finally going to get that new Dell 27" U2713. I'm just curious how much GPU horsepower you guys think I'll need to drive it's massive 2560x1440 resolution at playable frame rates? I'm currently running a Superclocked GTX 570 from eVGA. Would add...

Re: Need Monitor Recommendation
I think that's what I'll probably end up with. My current Dell has been rock solid. I really want to see one of these IPS monitors in person to see if they're as night/day as they claim. I'm glad Dell is sticking with 1920x1200 and not going the 1080P route everyone else seems to be taking.

Re: Need Monitor Recommendation
My current Dell monitor has worked like a champ for about 10 years now. I'd been looking at the new Dell UltraShaprs before I posted this but saw they were all using IPS displays as opposed to TN displays. I was under the impression this would still give a blurry image in fast motion like I'm gettin...

Re: Need Monitor Recommendation
I was refering to the 120hz display for 2D motion smoothing. I won't do 3D as it gives me a headache. I've not seen a 600hz LCD TV, he probably has a plasma TV as those natively operate at 600hz. As far as the scaling is concerned, I know I can run them at a lower resolution but we get into the issu...

Need Monitor Recommendation
Hey Gang, So I'm looking to finally replace my Dell 2405FPW monitor with something more modern. Mostly my complaints are related to ghosting of the image due to the low response time of 15MS. I've also been considering going larger, but any of the 27" display's I've found are either 1920x1080 (...
