If your dad is uber cheap (like mine and half the world) here is another board for a little less money. PC Chips KM400 Motherboard It's about $6 cheaper than the one you are currently looking at and is basically the same micro-ATX board. I've used one before and it's your basic entry level Socket A ...

Anyone have a good link about NX? So far it looks to be a security flag in the 64-bit X86 instruction set on the new Athlon 64 cpu's only.

I must have overlooked this NX technology and AMD never mentioned it to me when I reviewed the initial Athlon 64 FX-5x series CPU's

wow... This is shocking and I have been following Palladium since 2002. I did notice something odd in the article. After a year of tackling the Windows security nightmare, Microsoft has killed its Next-Generation Secure Computing Base (NGSCB) project Then later in the article they said: Though Micro...

I skimmed it and saw: Supports DDR266/200 MHz FSB

typo on their part and I missed the FSB.. LOL I'm a little low on sleep here!

You could always get an Athlon XP 2500+ and OC it to 3200+ on a KT600 mobo with some DDR400 memory. I see these setups for sale for around $250-$325 all over the place

VIA to raise chipset prices by 6-10% in July

VIA Technologies will hike its chipset prices by 6-10% starting July 1 to reflect its rising production costs, according to sources at the chipset maker. This will be VIA’s second price increase this year, following a 5-8% increase in March. Yeah... Price hikes are always good.. lol The full Read G...

Here is a link on the board: http://www.motherboard.cz/mb/iwill/KK266Plus-R.htm As for upgrading you on a small budget like 90% of users, which is just fine. You already have a great video card and forgot to mention your total budget so I'll just suggest what I'd do with a limited budget. If you are...

'Palladium' is now known as NGSCB

NGSCB — the hardware/software security system formerly code-named "Palladium" — has been one of the most controversial components expected to debut in the version of Windows that's due out in 2006+. I know many are freaked out about this hardware form of security, but here is some hope: M...

Longhorn System Specs...

This is kinda bothersome... According to Microsoft Watch, typical Longhorn computers may require dual-core CPU's running at 4-6GHz with at least two gigs of RAM, a terabyte of storage, a 1 Gbit built-in Ethernet-wired port and an 802.11g wireless link. It should also have a graphics processor that r...

If you are running only 2.85Vdimm on the memory you don't need anything more than heat spreaders on the memory. As for the northbridge I like using the Swiftech MCX159 chipset cooler. It works and is pretty sweet looking to boot. The link below will show you all you need to know. http://www.swiftnet...

kingston PC-4000 uses either Hynix or Samsung IC's. Hynix IC's can sustain 3.6V, while I'm not sure what the limit on Samsung IC's are I have always run my Samsung Rev C's (what is used on PC-4000) at 2.85V. I run all benchmarking here @ 2.85Vdimm so no worries with running that voltage I do it 24-7!

Seems like the 61.11 drivers will give the Geforce 6 series another boost in performance. Areas of interest compared to 60.72 driver include: 5%...

Barton's have more surface area, but the extra space is just cache and that is not the "hot spot" on the CPU. Going from a 2600+ to a 3200+ follows the linear curve of temps for XP processors. No worries on this change over and heat shouldn't be on your concern list... Welcome to the forum...

I'd try to keep the Vcore under 1.7 or 1.75 on the prescott for the traditional air cooling setup. The more you increase the voltage the more leakage the cpu will produce thus lowering its lifespan (no biggie), but also increase the temps due to this (is a biggie). Ive crashed the bios on my p4c800e...
